Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have just been over at Theresa's site reading about her latest venture of   Index Cards for her ds. Jennifer commented that they remind her of the Grab Bags we got excited about last year.

I thought it would be wonderful to share ideas here to add to Theresa's 'cards'
Often I find other's ideas are either easily adapted to fit our needs or they will 'jumpstart' my thoughts.

I have just shared the idea of index carding with my dc and they are very excited, they think it a much better idea than assignment sheets as they feel 'in control'. So I'm off to research and write and I'll be back to share.

Well the Holy Spirit must have been with me on this one as the ideas just flowed.

I have started with ideas for my dd13. She has just looked over my shoulder and loves the hands on activities but not the writing ones. Oh well hopefully she will do some.

I'd love to see any other ideas. I just love it Theresa , my dc want me to type my ideas onto the cards as they tell me my writing is not good enough

History Cards:

The French Revolution- Chiara

Imagine that you lived in Paris during 1789-1799. Write a diary of the main events. Take on the character of a young person living in that period.

Conduct a trial of Louis or Antoinette. (Use your siblings as characters, brief them on their parts)

Dramatize (enact) a scene from the French Revolution period. It may be by the guillotine, or a denouncement, an escape from prison, or the overthrow of Robespierre.

Write a “press release” on the capture of yet another noble. Give your ‘character’ a name, describe why he/she/they are ‘enemies’ of the state. And make it clear as to their fate.

Using balsa wood or paddle pop sticks build a scaffold.

Draw a cartoon strip highlighting the main events of the French Revolution make certain you highlight the situation of the Church during this period.

Write in point form some of the causes of the French Revolution.

You are an Archbishop in France during the Revolution write a letter to the Holy Father telling him of your heartbreak, the disarray and the carnage in France.

Draw or ‘google images’ of main characters during the Revolution period. Write a small amount of information under each character. Display these attractively in your notebook.

Draw a timeline of the French Revolution noting all important events.

Using balsa wood, paddle pops, material etc. build a cart used to ‘smuggle’ nobles from the prison, also include ‘nobles in disguise’ in your cart.

Do a power point presentation of the French Revolution focusing on the fate of the Church.

Anna Maria Taigi lived during the French Revolution, write a brief summary of her life, including what part the Revolution played in it.

Write a play of a street scene in Paris during the Revolution as the carts rumble through on the way to the Scaffolds.

Read ‘Song of the Scaffolds’ and write a book review for other teens. Your audience has no knowledge of the Revolution   This only has to be two paragraphs long.
What part did the Holy Father play during the Revolution? Write a letter as if you were a Cardinal in the Vatican writing to a Cardinal in Australia telling of his demise. Include all the Holy Father did to end the Revolution and the suffering he endured.

Awesome, Erin! Your ideas are just great!
This is also what happens to me, sometimes. I will get on a streak of writing up project ideas and come up with a dozen or so. I love it when that happens!
French revolution, eh? How about having her do a booklet on fashions of the time, whip up some French cuisine (croissants would be interesting), and do a power point "tour" of Versaille, or the gardens?

Great Theresa,

Thanks I know that dd will particularly love the cooking idea, she wants more hands on ideas, I'll go and add it.

I was excitedly sharing this idea with dh last night and he reminded me that I used to do a similar thing with the dc when they were younger. I got fed up with having to come up with suggestions when one ds used to say 'what can I do?' So I wrote up a whole list of ideas on 'scrap' pieces of paper, 'play the piano' colour in a picture', 'do a jigsaw' etc and he had to draw out a paper from the container, he was allowed a second choice if he didn't like the first but that was it. Otherwise when he had the doldrums he could be never pleased.

My brain was goind all night like.

I'm so glad to see you guys using the Grab Bag idea, my kids ask for it at least every couple weeks. it makes things a little less rigid and I really like your cards idea too!! Thanks for sharing them!
