Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm searching for a Prodigal son toy ... something that my children can handle ... to use with CGS. Any ideas? I found a farmer, his wife, and some fence that I can use for the Good Shepherd parable, but it's in England at ELC. Is there anything local? We have the farm set already, and I *think* we have a few pigs. I just bought sheep from Our Father's House (please scroll down to see the sheep) and I just wanted everything to sort of match size-and-type-wise.

Kites Tails and Toys sell a Papo farmer, wife, and animals. We have these plus the shepherd. I believe some of the animals that Our Father's House sells are also Papo figures, so size wise they should match. Julia can probably get the farmer and wife, as she sells other Papo figures (Joan of Arc, etc.) Good luck!

Two questions:

Nicole ~ There's a Playmobil person that looks like a prodigal son? I know there are those who have capes and look rich, we have some of those...but what about when he turns ragged and poor? Is there a picture of a particular person you can send me?

Maria ~ I'm not sure I understand what picture you're talking about ... is it a picture of the people you use to illustrate your CGS stories?

God bless,

God bless,

Tina,

I was just trying to be funny. You said you wanted a figure of the prodigal Son...

I thought I could oblige as I am the prodigal Son/daughter...

Sorry, not so funny.

Could you possibly make something out of these dollhouse figures? They are much cheaper through Oriental Trading Company than similar family figures I have seen in other catalogues.

These puppets also look promising.

Tina,

I just realized that you were talking about using the figures for CGS. In this case, you might want to use 2-dimensional figures to stay true to the 2-dimensional vs. 3-dimensional aspect of CGS. 3-dimensional figures are used for things that really happened, i.e. the nativity, the last supper, etc.

For the story of the Prodigal Son, you might try finding 2-dimensional wooden figures. If they aren't just what you want, you can paint them to meet your needs. Here is one idea, Melissa and Doug Wooden Farm Set. However, you would still need two more figures for the sons. Wood figures are really easy to paint to make them look right.

Perhaps you are the daughter who remained true (to God, our Father), while everyone else is doing their own thing. Ever look at it that way?

Wrong forum, but I'm still praying for you!

Ack! As is probably obvious, I haven't even cracked open the CGS yet (well, I opened it to see the Church calendar on the first page and decided to start on page one). I was trying to get away with doing this cheaply (which, I still might). I don't think I'm going to worry about 2 or 3 - D. I know I'm not doing things the way I'm supposed to, but I don't want to spend a great deal of money garnering supplies when we already have 3 farms sets, we don't have time to make figures, and to me, those stories *might* have really happened ... no? I think kids can understand that if we tell them it's a story it's a story and if it truly happened, we can tell them it really happened. ... right?

I know this will be different around the country, but I just bought one of these sets from my local Tuesday Morning for $15.00. I didn't recognize that it was the same one mentioned here, but I thought it was a pretty good deal.

If its not too late

You can go to this site http://www.sundayschoollessons.com/parable.htm
and copy and paste a pic of the prodigal son -scroll down to find the right parable and glue it onto a wooden block.

cheap and easy. you can color in the image.

I have no idea who the illustrator is but i e-mailed the site a year ago asking if i could use an image for a church projectand they said it was ok so it should still be ok.

you can email them to check if you are worried.

it is NOT a catholic site-they mention luther on several pages but there is some good info and great pics!
