Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Opinions on Veritas Press in general? I saw some "flags" in some of the upper grade history and, of course, all the religion materials.

But the younger grades look so pretty!

Specificly, I have an opportunity to get the 1st grade comprehension studies and they look very nice and a good fit for rowing?

opinions? cautions?
thanks!

Assuming you are talking about this Veritas Press, I would personally not use anything from them. They are a local company here and very anti-Catholic. I would not trust any of their materials not to have bias (though some certainly MIGHT be fine) and frankly I do not wish to patronize them.

Just my opinion.

God bless,

Yes, that's the one I meant. :-(

Are we talking on the same line of anti-catholic as BJU?
I have the same feelings you express for BJU, so that'd be an instant toss for me.

*sigh* but it's soooo pretty! "Why can't they use their powers for good?!" as my 2nd ds says.

Thanks for the heads up. The First Favorites Vol. 1 and 2 I was looking at appealed so much to me like FIAR does. Oh well, i'll just have to look at it as God's way of helping me not to spend more money on yet more books.

I don't know because I'm really not familiar with the BJU stuff. But it's bad - stuff I won't repeat. There's a lot of that kind of thinking here.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

God bless,

My experience with Veritas has been that some of the things they have are just regular, secular books that you could buy anywhere. As to those things, the use to which they are put if you are following their curriculum guide might be offensive, but the books themselves are just what they are. EXCEPT I once bought a book they were selling, but that was not their own product, because it sounded like it would be helpful to me; I think the title was "Augustine, Farm Boy of Tagaste." I thought, well they're offering a saint's biography; I'm surprised, but it looks good. Well, I couldn't read this book to my children! On one of the early pages in the story it said something to the effect that Augustine used to be a Christian, but that was before he started listening to the ways the Catholic church distorted Scripture.

So, I would go along with Michele in saying that I wouldn't patronize them. Although I am very drawn to their Phonics Museum, which looks so beautiful.

Peace,
Nancy

Ladies - I have never heard this before but I am glad this has come up. I was tihnking of buying some ancient history materials from them, but think I will not be supporting their bashing of the Catholic Faith.

Martha,

I have the First Favourites Vol 1. It is more of a language arts guide rather than like FIAR. There is copywork, comprhension questions and one or two activities. For example, Curious George has three fill-in-the-blank pages, a drawing page where you draw in the balloons that George is holding, an activity where you make George out of a toilet paper tube and a copywork selection.

I was disappointed by it. I thought it was alot of busy work. Now, I am not Catholic so this wasn't an issue for me. I don't think in this particular book do they show any sort of bias, but I understand you not wanting to buy anthing from a business that is anti--Catholic.

Pretty yes, but actually rather twaddly. My hsing neighbor purchased the whole program for her daughters and has been quite disappointed. The readers are very forced and the music quality of the tapes is not in keeping the price of the program. So I woudn't be tempted.

I was talking to my dh about it and he said to just order the reading books in for viewing and only buy what I want - elsewhere.

Thanks Julia & sewcrazy for the feedback on those item. It certainly lessens the disappointment. The last thing I need is more busy and twaddle.

Again, so glad I looked to this great forum for guidance before buying. What a huge money and disappointment saver.
