Hi all,

Is anyone else out there using Winterpromise's Adventures in Sea & Sky?

I'm particularly concerned about the two Dave and Neta Jackson books - _Shanghaied to China_ (about the life of Hudson Taylor) and _Fate of the Yellow Woodbee_ (about Nate Saint). This is the couple who wrote the "Hero Tales" books. I'm thinking that I can replace the first with the Vision book on St. Francis Xavier, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should use to replace the second. I could just drop the books, since we're doing Sea and Sky in a relaxed fashion, but I think it would be neat to find something to replace them with instead.

Can anyone think of a Catholic living book involving aviation? :)

Hi Sharon,

The only thing that I can think of right now is an old Vision book "My Eskimos: A Priest in the Arctic" by Roger P. Buliard, O.M.I. In Alaska, priests still have to get around by airplane, and the Fairbanks diocese is a missionary diocese. http://www.cbna.info/ My husband is a pilot in the Army and we have been stationed in Alaska twice ( by far my favorite place - I love it there!)

We watched Beyond the Gates of Splendor and The End of the Spear recently ( JIm Elliot, Nate Saint stories)

They were both very good, though not about Catholic missionaries. I can't remember anything objectionable in either of them, but you probably want to preview them.

I was thinking of the same book about the Alaskan priest but couldn't remember the title. I've been trying to find something else also! Hey Kym...your dh is a Catholic Aviator...you should write a book!

Unfortunately I doubt there are any books about him for children, but one Catholic aviator worth learning about is Leonard Cheshire. He was a top British pilot in World War II and flew as an observer when the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. After the war he started a chain of homes caring for the sick and disabled and converted to Catholicism. He later married Sue Ryder, another Catholic convert who had also founded homes to care for the sick, the disabled, and concentration camp survivors. You can read a bit about him here
