Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So we've made the move from TX to GA and are getting somewhat settled. However, I'm scheduled for a c-section on July 7th    . Its been pretty crazy yet I'm holding up surprisingly well. I'm starting to think about the fall so I have some kind of plan before sleep deprivation kicks in. The move was expensive and I really can't spend much of anything this year. I really shouldn't have to with all that I have on my shelves.   So my plan is to do as much as a family as possible and hopefully keep it simple. My 12 can work independently, however my 10 year old is still struggling with reading and she and my 8yo can do most everything together. Here's my plan so far for covering approximately the Romans to 1100 AD or so.

Family:

History:
Usborne Encyclopedia of World History: Pages 184 to 259
The World's Story: Ch. 9 (The Rise of Rome) to Ch. 27 (The End of the Middle Ages).
Augustus Caesar's World or Famous Men of Rome and Middle Ages???

Family Literature:
1. The Bronze Bow
2. The Apple and the Arrow
3. The Story of Rolf and the Vikings Bow

Family Religion:
Once Upon a Time Saints
More Once Upon a Time Saints
Saints and Heroes to the End of the Middle Ages
Baltimore Catechism
Other books on hand

Nature/Science:
Something suitable for the 10 & 8 year olds. I have Behold & See 5.

12yo Independent Reading:

Augustus Caesar's World or Famous Men of Rome and Middle Ages or all???

Literature:
1. The Children's Homer???
2. The Hobbit
3. Animal Farm

Science:
1. Archimedes and the Door of Science
2. Galen and the Gateway to Medicine
3. Inventing the Future: The Scientists Who Changed the World

10 & 8yo's Reading's with Mom:

Literature:
1. The Bronze Bow??
2. The Princess and the Goblin
3. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood

So what do you think? Too much/too little? Still need to figure out some science and/or nature.

They'll be doing Math, working on reading (8 & 10yos), and copywork daily. Plus, I'll probably follow AO selections for Picture Study and Composers.

Make any book suggestions because I might just have it. Thank you for helping an overwhelmed Mama .

We read The Bronze Bow in the co-op class I taught this past school year and it was a wonderful, amazing story. Loved it and can't believe I hadn't read it before. It would be a good story to read during Lent, but anytime really. So good.

I think your plan looks amazing.

Your plan looks excellent! Just wanted to wish you luck. Looks like today's the day for the baby.

Behold and See Five.... I bought a used copy just to get a good look at it, left it on my work table, and ds picked it up.

He was enthralled with the activities: digging worms, raising grubs, sketching fire in a nature journal, smashing fossils, etc.

It seems to be a very boy friendly book. I wasn't planning to use it this year, but my ds already has a pan of worms on the porch as a warm up for the fall. Hmm.. I seem to be doing a lot of plan B this year, but if he's excited about it, that's fine.

I have heard from several other moms that their kids really liked Behold and See 5, and Cathy Duffy gives it an excellent review, so I don't think you can go wrong there. I liked the conversational tone throughout the book.

FYI: AC Moore has black, hard cover spiral bound sketch books in the recommended size for B&S 5 for $5 each.

I second the Bronze Bow... if you can find it as a book on cd at the library, even better!
