Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My youngest is a sucker for any summer reading programs that are offered. We normally do one through our local library and Barnes & Noble. My oldest will only do them if he likes the prize.

I want to create one of my own for the boys this summer, but I don't want it to be a "reward" program or bribery. Yet, they need a little nudge to read during their free time in the summer. Is is possible to "encourage" reading and offer something and to avoid a rewards program all at the same time?

Could you plan books that have movies, and watch the movie together after they have finished the book?

I always liked letting the kids have the lights on past bedtime if they were quietly reading in bed.

So if bedtime is 9pm.. if they're quietly reading I won't turn out the light until 9:30.

Cassie, I'm going to do my own version of a summer reading program for my DS13. However, I do plan to "reward" him with a few bucks !! I want to have him read one book per month BUT the kicker is I choose the book if he wants the reward. I'm trying to get him interested in a bit more "deep" reading.

I tell my kids that if theyre in bed by 9:00 they can read As LATE AS THEY WANT . It sounds terribly daring &loosey goosey I know, but 9 times outta 10 theyre asleep within 30 min... And u skip the eye strain of flashlights under the covers haha
