Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

*BTW if anyone missed my intro im Maggie and I have a DD who is 5 and a ds 2.

My dd will ask to "do school" and asks me to call her student and calls me teacher. She calls her brother little student and includes him in lessons.
Now because she started reading on her own a bit we bought chc k to do slowly mostly to appease the grandparents (3 "early childhood development experts and elemnetary teacher )We were a bit more formal than i would of liked at that age but now that the GP's have backed off I have loosened up too. But I Never called her student . It is really weird. She is totally happy when I agree and while she doesnt ask every day she does frequently. Sometimes ill ask just to be mom and she will agree but she is disapointed.
Is she going to grow our of this?
Thanks Maggie

I odn't think it's weird at all. She's asking you to "play school" with her. I do think she'll outgrow it eventually. Perhaps the influence of her grandparents have fuled her game or perhaps it's something she's seen on TV or heard in a book. Regardless, it seems pretty harmless and I'll bet it's fairly shortlived.

I agree with Elizabeth. Kids love to play school!
Maybe you could have her teach back a concept as a fun (hidden) way to 'test' her? Reversing roles...People of all ages learn the most by teaching. I know I do!

*I'm not saying she needs 'testing' just that it would add variety to the day and clarify concepts. Basically a form of narration...

Maggie,

My 7yod does the same thing! I remember playing school with my little brother when I was about that age, too. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Just kids being kids.

Nicholas and Gregory ( numbers 2 and 3) used to play school all the time when they were 5 and 6 years old, respectively - but they had St Baby's School and taught their baby brother the countries of the world, etc - as the baby sat in his baby swing, lapping up all the attention.

I think its kind of normal - school is prevalent in our culture and for awhile it is a fun game.

My girls do this regularly. My 8 yr old is actually teaching the 4 yr old to read.

And they love to plan trips on the big yellow school bus.

My 4 year old dd has recently started playing "school" with me too. This started late March early April at the first signs of spring. I was cleaning up the garden and had cut down some of the ornamental grass from last year. She plucked a piece of the grass and with the employment of her new pointer, scurried me to a chair and we played "school." This was the first of what seems to be an endless game.

My children play 'doctors' and I consider that weird as they have never been to doctors in their lives. Where do they get the material for this? They have broken bones, stitiches, unconscious patients etc.

All of them play this for hours.
