I'd like to catalog the books I own. Can anyone recommend a good app?
Thanks!

I've only used one, so I don't know, there may be others/better ones. But I really love Goodreads.
goodreads.com
I use mine on desktop and Android.

I use Readerware for my cataloging but not sure if it is an app. We chatted a bit before about options.

I'm glad this came up in discussion of apps. I could not stand manually using GoodReads website, but now I have scanning capability and use of apps the ease of use is nice.
I'd like to hear about other apps. The thing about Goodreads is that it's so public, and messy with all those reviews, if I just want to catalog my books.

I am considering Book Retriever
I like that it will give you information about reading level, and will sort books based on reading level.
Here is a review.

I think Jen uses Book Crawler, and I tried it and liked it well enough, but I never got very far typing manually on my iPad. Dh just upgraded jismiPhone, and I think I'll be able to use his old one, which having the camera to scan barcodes will help a lot, I think.

I just came across this review of an app/online service for organizing a classroom library called classroom organizer.
I like that it is online and not just an app, but I can still use my phone to scan. I also like that I can export my library to an excel file if I ever wanted to change to a different program or they discontinued this service down the road. And I love that you can name your shelves and organize by location in addition to genre!

If you are a Mac user, I cannot recommend Bookpedia enough! I'm happy to tell you more if you'd like, but I'll wait and see if you use Mac or not before I go that far.

Sure! If you use Mac, Bookpedia is an excellent, affordable program. You can scan books' barcodes with isight, enter with barcode or enter manually. I have all 3,900+ books in our home library. You can also maintain totally separate lists - I have a wish list, a personal reading/wish list for myself, a list of books recommended to me by others, gift ideas for others, etc. There is a feature to easily mark who has borrowed your books. You can customize fields in the records you keep on your books.
If you have an iphone/ipod touch, you can also have your collection on there to access when you are at book sales to help prevent duplicate purchases. Also, their customer service is top-notch also. I'm not yet sure how to insert a link, but a search for Bookpedia will take you there!
Take care,
Kelly

Not sure if i should have started a new topic. I don't want to hijack this conversation.
I am looking for free or close to free book cataloging that is safe for my ds 10. he has been asking me to type his lists of books he has read, wants and recommends. I was wondering if Goodreads or Librarything would be appropriate or am I shooting myself in the foot? Obviously I wouldn't want him to have access to all the books and reviews of others.
