Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would love to hear the criteria you use to evaluate whether you are doing "too much" "too little" or "just right"in terms of the amount of work your DC do each day. I am specifically referring to the work of middle school and up, but the criteria you use to evaluate this topic with younger students is welcome as well!

I posted another question about the number of hours your DC spend each day and that is very helpful. Those responses and some further thinking led me to this question.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

When they start melting, we are done even if we haven't finished what I had hoped to for that subject. As long as we keep plugging in a forward motion, I figure we are doing well. Sometimes behind(a lot of the time), sometimes ahead(rarely). There were years I would think we had done nothing, and I was a failure. Then I would get stuff together for my portfolio review, and I was amazed that we actually DID do something, and we loved each other, had some fun, and had good conversations about things other than "school."
I have "melty" kids though.
I am not sure this method works as I am working REALLY hard with my 9th grader right now to learn "just do it." However, I am finding it is easier as we have a decent relationship that I am not sure that if I had pushed more when he was little, he would understand what we are trying to accomplish now in the new attitude. So, I let the littler one melt a little more than I let him, right now
I always tried to have the "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" attitude. I find a more receptive time to work with them.
Hope that helps and if not, it is OK. I wish I had more motivated, obedient kids......I see how easy it is for other moms..but I also have learned to keep my eyes on my own paper and just enjoy Gods gifts and know I am not messing them up TOO much.
