Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The administration announced it to faculty yesterday; today you can read about it on the Cardinal Newman Society blog.

Interesting, maybe that's what our college here needs to do. Is there any change to the faculty's salary?

I don't think so. I sure hope not!

The thinking, as I understand it, is that

a) right now, too many of the kind of students the college really wants are looking at the sticker price and writing it off as too expensive,

and

b) the students they do have are largely there on financial aid of various kinds; almost nobody pays full tuition anyway.

So, the idea is to close the gap between tuition price and what a family can pay to the greatest extent possible, to reduce the amount of financial aid the college has to offer (though it will certainly still be offered). This may well end up costing the college less money in the long run -- that's the hope, anyway. And they do want to attract kids from . . . well, the kinds of families on this forum, for example: large homeschooling families who've done a good job of educating their children but don't have the resources for expensive college educations, especially many times over. That really is the target demographic.

I thought folks here would be interested in this development!

That is the same here, but they haven't done anything in terms of changing the "official" tuition.
