Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am starting to plan the next 4 years of HS and looking at the science years. My science in 7th is Apologia = General and in 8th - Apologia - Physical.

Can anyone give suggestions on what they have used for there high school sciences and why they liked them.
Thanks
Misty

Hi Misty! I will respond to this too since you ask a specific question here!

Even though my kids out source science the place they went used Bob Jones Science books. I used Apologia physics with my oldest (we did that one together). That is an option for you as you have already done 2 years of it in middle school. Truthfully I really liked the apologia physics and think the biology and chemistry texts would be good too. I liked his lab book as it was created with the homeschool environment in mind and didn't take a fortune to pull off!

Have a plan - but take it one year at a time too. Start with a science in 9th grade. Pick a text and lab book. Once you go through that year - you will be in a better position to know if you want to continue with that publisher or switch.

This is not Catholic, but my sister's daughter did an onsite 2-day course with Landry Academy for one of her science credits. I don't know anything about this company, but she seemed to enjoy the lab experience (dissecting things, yuck!).

There's a long and helpful thread on doing science with living books in high school:

High School Science Without a Textbook

There are quite a few other high school science threads in the archives, if you search for phrases like "high school biology" or "natural history", for example, but also chemistry and physics. I've learned a lot from the collective wisdom of these boards over the years.

Of course, if you wanted to and your dd enjoys the approach, you could stick with Apologia all through high school. That's what most people in my area do, or they outsource high school science classes.

We're kind of weird and freewheeling at my house, though, and my kids have also enjoyed marine biology, astronomy, paleontology, ornithology, and natural history.

It's sort of a trial and error process, I think, figuring out what approach and which materials work best... just like anything else.
