I am considering purchasing the P50, and after spending days reading through the gargantuan thread on book binding, decided to start a new thread. I have some questions for all the book binders:
1. How easy is it to actually bind and zip/unzip? Is there a learning curve? I do not want to add something tough to my full plate.
2. Cost - it seems that the bindings etc are costly. I am wondering if it would just be cheaper to go to the local offie supply store and have it done?
3. What do I need to get started. I aim to use the binder for:
- putting spiral bindngs on Math books - about 120 pages
- binding homemade student planners
- binding college documentation - homemade transcripts and course descriptions
- various notebooks for history, poetry, nature study etc that the children are working on
- individual prayer books
I am thinking that My Binding may be better for coils. I don't really want to buy 100 of one size though.
- Presentation covers - what do I need and where is the best place to get these
Thanks so much,

Listening in! I found that Office Max had the best price so I went out and got one last week. I have no coils or covers or anything yet!

Marilyn,
1. It is super easy. Period.
2. I have not done cost analysis,so I can't say, so thinking aloud... if over time you use it a lot I think it's cheaper? For example, in a box of 100 black combs for $50, each bind would be $.50. The machine is $71, so add $.71. Then I bought these covers for $26. If you use the cover for front and back, then add $.50. So the total would be $1.75 for each bound notebook. I don't know what Staples charges, but I would guess that was cheaper... again IF you are doing a lot of binding... which I am. I use this instead of 3 ring binders now.
I only buy one size, I would imagine that $1.75 figure goes up if you play around with different sizes. Although that said, I am thinking about buying the half size for teacher planners in the future and that I would get in a 25 pack.
I would rather do this then walk into Staples with my gang... even though zipping the pages thru the punching machine can be time consuming. It's easy, just takes time.

I didn't really answer your #3.
I linked to what I used, but I'm not sure I'm getting the best deal, I just did what was easiest and linked to what I did. Last year, Amazon had navy 5/8 combs for $40 that I bought. I didn't see that. But the covers were the same. I used covers front and back, or just front, or just cardstock, or laminated cardstock on my notebooks fyi.

Mybinding.com has these navy 5/8" combs on sale for $5.09 per 25. And Office Max has the P50 for $53 dollars in the store I think. I used a $10 off $50 coupon I googled for...
(sorry if I'm enabling anyone )

Thank you Maryan for all the information.
Amy too - unfortunately no Office Max in my area.
Maryan - please would you link to some covers you have bought. Do the covers come pre-punched?
Thanks so much.

I bought most of my bindings from Mybinding. Just followed the sales, don't worry about the colors.

I'm so glad I have one. We use it for everything. It's wonderful. DH found it at Office Max and was able to use a coupon going at the time for extra savings. He also got the coils for the binder there, as well. (In store.)
Cardstock for the back and pretty scrapbook paper for the front of our books.
