From this thread I started, I received lost of advice on boosting immune and iron. I've started Vit C and a B-complex, and I'm going to do some blackstrap molasses to boost my iron. I'm hoping this will ease the stress in my body.
Now I have to tackle the insaitiable craving for sugar. It's huge!! The kind of craving that makes you get in the car at 8pm to run up the street and get a candy bar. I HAVE to have chocolate!! It's insane how badly I crave it right now.
I've heard that low magnesium could be the culprit of this craving, but what else? I do not drink sodas (maybe one or two a week), we sweeten tea with stevia, and I try to snack on proteins, but I still get these intense cravings. Could I literally be addicted to the sugar? Maybe the sugar is in cohoots with the depression/SAD/hormones? Ugh, why can't I just be normal!

You could have Candida. It can drive you to sugar, like an alcoholic to drink. There is an excellent book that covers this and I can't remember the title right now. It might be The Diet Cure. I'll be back when I know for sure.

You might look into leptin resistance. I know you mentioned hormonal issues before, and leptin is sort of a master hormone. It can also be related to sugar cravings.

I have experienced similar cravings before being diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (hypothryoid).
Now I have changed my diet in certain respects. On occasion I "cheat" and feel pretty bad. The best thing I have done is a probiotic (good one - cheap junk makes no difference). And eat less carbs in the form of bread, grains, etc. I don't cut them out totally though. Lastly, DO cut out an all-carb breakfast. It made a difference to me. So for breakfast yesterday morning I "cheated" and had rice cereal with the kids. I felt hungry, craving something sweet all morning. This morning I went back to what I should eat....stir fry zuchninii with carrots, a banana, and pistachio butter on rice bread. Some mornings I eat meat/other protein. Sometimes I just eat left-over supper...if I can stomach it. I don't like to eat meat in the morning right when I wake up. Warm veggies are more welcoming.
BLessings,
Stephanie

One of the strategies for combating leptin resistance is a super high-protein breakfast within a half hour of waking. It really helps with all kinds of hunger cravings and helping your body find its natural cicadian rhythms or whatever you call it.

The book I was thinking of is The Diet Cure. It has many ideas to help get over the sugar including supplementing with amino acids. Of course the natural source for amino acids is protein, so it looks like even if it isn't candida but Hashimoto's or Leptin resistance, protein and less carbs might be your answer.

Hmm, I have been very bad about eating carb loaded breaskfasts (easy cereals). When pregnant, my morning sickness always faded to a dull annoyance whenever I loaded up on proteins for breakfast. I bet if I tried that routine again I would feel better. Thanks for the reminder about proteins in the morning! I'll check out that book as well, and do some internet research on the leptin and thyroid issues.
Thinking about yeast, my left girl itches constantly. It's a deep itch, one that can't be scratched, so maybe it is a yeast thing (although I have no classic symptoms and no thrush symptoms).
Thanks!!!

I've been on a rabbit trail the last week regards no wheat and no sugars. Anyhow you may be interested in Sarah Wilson's I Quit Sugar ebook and David Gillespie's Sweet Poison Quit Plan. I've just returned from the health food shop with a bottle of stevia, to use instead of sugar in my baking.

I was reading some about leptin and came across this article which just confuses the issue even further. It cites two books about Leptin Diets and they advise completely different and opposite approaches. One says there meals a day nad one says 5-6 small meals a day. I'm so confused?

About yeast and symptoms. Candida can be intercellular and show none of the typical symptoms or you can have a topical red rash with no other noticable indications of an infection. Sugar cravings is a big one though.
hope you figure it all out soon.
