And yes, you'd have to have a doctor to at least a finger prick to know if you're anemic. A real blood test would be better.

red raspberry leaf.. taken as pills or as a tea (not bad tasting but definately herbal) can help normalize hormones.

You could also try liquid chlorophyll, acts like iron in your body, absorbs easier and no constipation It is not the best tasting, but I mix mine with a packet of EmergenC and either water or grape juice.

I find that if I mix the red raspberry leaf with something like rose hips, I get a more pleasant/fruity herbal tea. I don't particularly care for it on its own.
This is my friend's recipe for "pregnancy tea" though it will be healthful in general for a variety of reasons, and it is quite good:
Basic Recipe:
1/3 cup Raspberry Leaves
1/3 cup Nettle Leaves
For variety add one or more :
1/8 to 1/4 cup Alfalfa
1/8 to 1/4 cup Chamomile
1/8 to 1/4 cup Dandelion
1/8 to 1/4 cup Hawthorn berries
1/8 to 1/4 cup Hibiscus
1/8 to 1/4 cup Red Clover
1/8 to 1/4 cup Rose hip
1 - 2 TBS Spearment
Directions : Place leaves in a half-gallon jar and fill to the top with almost boiling water. Cap tightly and let steep overnight. Strain out herbs and refrigerate the liquid until needed. The brew can be drunk freely, up to two quarts daily if desired.

The chlorophyll I tried was mixed with mint so it tasted good (well, not bad anyway ). Honestly I didn't notice that it made a bit of difference, though.

I have tried the mint as well, not too bad. I used chlorophyll and floradix after the birth of my 4th and 5th babies as recommended by my midwife, lots of bleeding afterwards and very anemic. I still use chlorophyll every morning.

I have to agree with Janette. Don't underestimate sleep deprivation. It can make one very irritable and overwhelmed. I have been through this. Just think of how whiny and irritable children get when they need to sleep. And it is even used as a brainwashing technique.
When it got really bad, my husband stepped in and helped train the baby to sleep in a crib. I would have to sleep in another room while he got up with the baby. (We started with letting him give one bottle during the night.) After a short time, the baby knew I wasn't there and didn't bother crying for me, so my husband didn't actually lose that much sleep. The baby started sleeping through the night and we moved the crib to a new room.
In my case my husband was able to help, but I did have a friend who offered to do this for me. She knew I was desperate. I would seriously consider giving this a try. In the end I regained my sanity and both baby and mom slept better.
Praying for you during this difficult time,

I think I am ready to put some boundaries on his sleeping. I love holding him, but I think the time has come to transition to a bed for naps. He's old enough now to use his brother's bed (it's the top of a bunk set, so it has rails on both sides) which will allow me to snuggle with him as we make this transition.
These past few days were a disaster! I won't go into it, but after reading more on these forums and other places I'm ready to admit that I'm depressed. Now I can finally start to heal!
Thanks for the prayers and helping me come to this realization.

have been praying for you here too and will continue. but had to chime in and second the tea suggestion. I drink something similar and it makes a WORLD of difference. my midwife calls it "calm mind tea" and says it balances hormones and helps women of all ages, not just during pregnancy. our version has oatstraw and nettles as the main ingredients with red clover and raspberry as optionals. Lindsay's version looks even tastier.
as someone who struggled with depression for years before a healing my heart goes out to you. hang in there! and reach out for help when you need it!

I went through a stage like this when my kids were the ages yours are now. First of all, its just a tough age, when your oldest gets a little bigger things will get easier. But the real root of my problem was severe sleep deprivation- a toddler who was a poor sleeper, and on top of that undiagnosed sleep apnea. HAs your husband ever mentioned if you snore?
For me, the sleep deprivation was less of an issue when I had infants, because the nursing hormones made me need less sleep. But when the nursing tapers off, but hte baby is still waking up a lot, things would get awful.
TAke some good care of yourself and best wishes
