Anyone here school in the evening?
We're considering my daughter having math in the evenings with Dad. I am delighted with the idea of my husband taking on this task but I worry about having school in the evening. I mean . . . evenings are for family and supper and relaxing and reading and . . . math?
How does this work in your family?

We have at times for precisely the reason you are considering; Dad and maths It is a season to fit the need, and special time for Dad and dd. Actually the way my dh taught it became a family event anyway and you can still relax

We start our days late and do school in the evening. I figure other families with kids in school have home work time so we do too. It's only hard when we have big evening activities like sports practices. It's sweet and makes my days easier.
Usually we do dinner and clean up and hit the DR table with table work for an hour or so. Suprizingly, it usually goes by fast with dad to help, and dark outside, full bellies, energy released during the day, social needs met during the daytime...it's all good.
Try it. you'll like it

My husband is in charge of history and geography, for which I am very grateful! He and my son often have their school time in the evening, and it works great for us. He also often has Fridays off, and has done their school time on Friday and Saturday mornings, but right now, evenings are a better fit.

We have also schooled math in the evenings with dad When my daughter has had difficulties, it has been better for everyone to know that that particular subject is off for the day. I liked having the break and my husband liked being more directly involved. We've only don eit for short periods of time, but it never interrupted our family time.

We do handwork, music appreciation, and catechism review in the evenings. I also go over the day and see if there is any assignment of a child that needs to be done orally. We do those in the evenings. I try not to do "heavy" lessons late at night -- to avoid sleep problems.

This year we are doing some evening lessons, mainly due to my daughter's dance class/practice schedule. (She calls it "homework," meaning, "stuff I didn't get done before dance but still have to finish today, unless I want to get behind."

Oh, thanks, you guys! I am happy to see that it has been a positive experienc. Really I was worried that it would b/c an unwanted distraction from the things I love about evenings (namely not doing school and visiting with my husband).
My husband and I have been talking about it and I'm going to show him your comments. I imagine we'll decide to give it a try. Both he and my daughter are excited by the prospect. I'm the holdout.
