From this interesting geography discussion
I'm just wondering if you could tell me your cheapest and best resources for maps. Wall maps, laminated maps, globes.
We need a globe, but nothing fancy. I just want a simple globe. The last one broke from the base and was used like a ball. I want a globe, not a ball.

I have this thing about shopping Target right around the end of their back to school sales. So this is where I've gotten our wall maps and Globe (which is about to just become a ball too ) I paid about $10 for our globe and about $2 for our big size wall maps.
The other place I keep eyeing is Lakeshore Learning, but yes alot more pricey.

I just bought a globe off of Amazon for about $30 and really love it. We got laminated maps at a HS convention from Geomatters. It has all about 10 maps (every continent with the countries lined out on the front and the topography on the back, a timeline, an ancients map and a world map). We really like it. I am not sure if they offer the set online. It cost us $50. I like that the kids can mark on them with markers, but I do wish that it had the countries and cities labelled.

World Wall Map - unframed it's 50 cents plus $3.99 shipping. I did take it to our local school supply store to be laminated. It's a very nice map. I like that it has degrees of latitude/longitude clearly marked along the border as well as the time zones marked clearly with clocks.
IF I HAD ROOM....how I would love a 55 x 29 world map for the wall!!
My favorite maps for reference are the Rand McNally M-Series laminated maps. I find them informative and very attractive.
We actually don't use our globe that much. >> GASP << I know!!! Every now and then we pull it down...but for the most part, we prefer nice flat maps that are laminated.

I know you said you are not looking for a fancy globe but I just can't tout our Oregon Scientific Smart Globe enough!! My dc LOVE it. It has sparked their love for geography!

Got our globe at a yard sale.. it's not perfect (the tape that covers the seam around the middle came off).. but it still works just fine for finding where things are and seeing it in the round vs flat. And it sits on top of one of my bookshelves.. actually it's in one of my favorite corners.. there's the tall book shelf and on top on one side is an arrow leaf philodendren and on the other my globe and in between I have an angel that was a Christmas gift. And there's a hanging lamp in that corner and the end of the couch and the tote with the cuddle blankets and it's just so cozy.

We bought our globe at Goodwill for $1.99. Just this weekend we discovered a great set of pull-down classroom maps at Goodwill for $4.99! St. Anthony has been very gracious in helping us find wonderful items to encourage our study of geography! I'm very excited about the pull-down maps because our youngest has particular interest in all things geographical! We also have numerous amazing National Geographic maps acquired from our library bookstore for 25 cents apiece..they're enhanced with historical information & pictures about the regions they portray.
This seems to be a really good time of year to scour garage sales and thrift stores for homeschool supplies. During our most recent trip to Goodwill it looked as if a homeschool family had donated all their homeschool materials and furnishings...there was an amazing desk, which had already sold, along with loads of other items that seem to only inhabit a homeschooler's home! Praying you'll find just what you need Jenn!

I just bought a US map at the dollar store. I received a world map free last year from a charity looking for a donation--I had never donated to the charity before and don't even remember which it was.
My dollar store (Dollar Tree) can be a real gold mine sometimes. At Easter they even had Stations of the Cross and Mary stickers (totally OT).
And I 2nd Goodwill, I have found maps, atlases. books, etc there for really cheap!
