Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Not sure if I'm putting this in the right place...

I printed off our state's Notice of Intent to Home School last week, intending on filling it out and getting it to the Dept of Education this week (it's actually not due until August 1, but I figured I'd get it in early just in case there's a problem).

All I have to do is give them my name, address, diploma... dd's name, age, grade, immunization records, and then here's my question:

It asked for just a list of subjects to be taught and her ss# (which it says is optional). Is it better to go ahead and give them her ss#? Should I be as vague as I can be for what I will be teaching?

For the subjects I wrote, "Math, Reading, Writing, Spelling, Science, History, Etc." (She'll be in 2nd) and I still have the SS# blank.

Advice?

I always go with only what is required by law. If something is optional (not required by law), I don't do it.   Giving lots of extra information, etc can set a precedence and lead to changes in the law, which can make homeschooling more difficult.

It is always a very good idea to check with HSDLA and see what it says about the regulations in your state and talk to other families to get a broad view.

I would leave off the SSN. They don't need it for any useful purpose, and it will be in their files.

In one of the states we've lived in, the county actually published all the information on everyone's notice of intent forms! (They don't do that any longer...guess why... ) If my childrens' SSNs had been on the form, they might have been published along with their names, birthdays, etc. Not so good.

Don't give them more than the law requires.

Leave all "optional" fields blank... To give you another example of optional and not giving up additional info: my state requires standardized testing, but giving them the results is optional- and you shouldn't do it. :)
