Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The new CHC guides for middle grades?

Theresa at CHC says they should be out this summer.

I just got the grade 2 planner(for the First Communion module), and I LOVE what I see in it.

I am planning on getting the grade 3 for the fall but substituting the spelling and math. From what I can see, it will work very very nicely. I am very very excited. Even the social studies will work, which is rare being that we aren't in the US.

I'm very curious about the grade 7, it might be exactly what i'm looking for for dd12 for next year.

What are the books like?

Well, I will be using 6th grade in the fall, and I have used CHC 7th grade in the past using their Middle Grades Lesson Plan Guide. I think that for the most part, the materials will be the same, with the exception of now they have Language of God for 7th, and they used to use Lingua Mater.

Oops, I just re-read your post! My oldest ds used CHC for 7th and 8th grades and he liked it. It was just the right amount and the right mix of work for him.

They will be using Faith and Life and Growing in the Virtues of Jesus for Religion, both of which are very solid. Growing in the VIrtues of Jesus is more of a reading/reflection/doing kind of thing. I liked it.

My Catholic Speller and Language of God will be used for English, the LoG book is new, so I cannot give you a review of that.

The Life Science program is pretty good. The book is not flashy, but it is solid. MODG uses it as one of their texts for Biology in high school, btw. It has lots of information in it, so I found that splitting the book between 7th and 8th grades, as CHC does, worked very well.

Light to the Nations is new, but you can see sample pages at the Catholic Textbook Project website. Being a new release, it was not used in the CHC MIddle Grades Lesson Plan Guide back when we did 7th, but it is supposed to be good.
