As the seasons change here, ever so slowly, and we're beginning to come out of the winter doldrums I thought I would start something a little different for my kids. Every morning, after prayer, I am going to add a little something for fun. It's not necessarily anything new, but just the way we do it. So far, this is what I have:
Monday - "Memory Work Monday". The kids do memory work on a regular basis, but I've decided that Monday will be the day that they get to officially "wow" their siblings with the latest poem they have memorized or the states and capitals, or bird names or whatever they are currently working on. So on Monday after prayer each child will have a turn to perform.
Tuesday - ?????????
Wednesday - "Work Hard Wednesday". On this day we will jump right into our regular routine. The thinking here is that we want to work extra hard so that Thursday can be a lighter day.
Thursday - "Thespian Thursday". On this day we will read a play in parts. I have several sites I am checking out to see if they might have some good plays I can print for free. If you are interested they are here, here, and here I haven't checked these sites carefully yet so I don't know if there is anything offensive or not. I might also read a play to them from Lamb's Shakespeare For Kids or something of that nature.
Friday - "Fine Arts Friday". We've always done our composer and artist studies on Fridays so this isn't anything new. It will just have an official title now!
I just can't think of anything for Tuesday! Any ideas?

:: Timeline Tuesday - a day to devote to adding figures/events to a book of centuries or timeline.
:: Tiptoeing through Nature Tuesday - take a nature walk today
:: Taking time to observe Tuesday - sit at the window for 10 minutes and name 2 things you observe out the windows.
:: Telescope Tuesday - could be fun if you're studying Astronomy, but unless you're REALLY into Astronomy prob wouldn't do for the entire year.
:: Terrific Tales Tuesday - everyone gets to bring a favorite book to Mom for reading.
:: Temporary Insanity Tuesday - Kidding!!!!
OR
Borrow a favorite phrase of mine from Charlotte Mason. She entitled her last and final book in her Home Education series, Toward a Philosophy of Education. Toward begins with "T" and you can use that in so many ways --
:: Toward ________ Tuesday --> Maybe something like Toward your project Tuesday which could mean that Tuesday is a day devoted to working on current history/science projects.

Wow! You ladies are awesome. Now I don't need to think of something, I need to decide which one to use!
I did actually come up with something last night - Ten Things Tuesday. We would list 10 things that we are thankful for.
But Timeline Tuesday might actually help us to get our timeline caught up and Traveling Tuesday might actually help us get to the geography that's been neglected lately....
Hmmmmm

Hi Erin,
Well, for starters, my kids loved the idea. Not everything worked as I had hoped. Fine Arts Friday often got "cancelled" due to things like appointments, and, as the weather got warmer, "Park Day" and other fun, end of the school year things. Thespian Thursday didn't work as well as planned either. It was time consuming to choose a play to read. I thought the idea of a play would help my reluctant reader a bit. It did, except he often needed help with his "lines". I think if I do that again we will work some practice time into his schedule so he can read more fluently when it comes time to read the play. I would also like to find a book of plays we can work through. I do better with something I can open and go with instead of having to search for a play each week and print it.
As I'm working on plans for this year I think I'm going to go with the same idea. It makes a fun start to the day and the kids all had their favorites. I'm thinking we will do more regular schooling on Fridays this year, so maybe that will help us to do a better job with the fine arts aspect. In all our years of homeschooling I have never really done much school work on Friday, but it seems like every Friday I am wishing for more of a routine instead of just wild kids!
I think our Tuesdays this year will be Jen's idea, "Terrific Tales Tuesdays".

Take Off Tuesdays!
(NOT) taking off as in taking the day off) But doing something science related...a science concept that they can really take off on doing some sort of science experiment or science exploration.
OR...some other idea that can really TAKE OFF!
