Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

DD is doing sign language in her preschool class and wants to do sign language at home. What are some of your favorite resources if you have done sign language with your littles (dd is 3 and we are looking to start this summer or after). She knows some basic signs like thank you, more, and things like that. DH nor I know any sign language

Hands down, Signing Time videos. We've talked about them so much on this board in the past. They are loads of fun!

There are not a ton of picture books out there but in our little asl collection we have

say it sign it
the handmade alphabet
handsigns

and we have some wonderful books by Erin Mcdonald and denise hanrahan that can be found at talking hands

if you ever do kumon workbooks we cut out and laminate all the large pics to play games in asl with.

have fun signing.

Seconding, thirding, all of the above.

I love the idea of Baby Signs and a couple of others I bought when my son was in utero and a newborn; but they don't necessarily teach ASL - but once we got the Signing Time videos - NO going back to anything else!

We love the Handmade Alphabet set (one with numbers, one with letters - the artwork alone is gorgeous!).

We've perused the other resources - and enjoyed them as well!

But really, hands-down, the first thing to get are the Signing Time videos (especially for you and your husband - they might seem babyish/simple for an adult, but you learn it!

Our children have learned to make many signs from this site that must be a support site for ASL for babies. There is a video at the bottom of the home page of her with her baby:

http://www.babies-and-sign-language.com/index.html

And other videos throughout the site:

http://www.babies-and-sign-language.com/infant-signing-video s.html

This page teaches the alphabet:

The children have enjoyed this site very much and are able to sign with their cousins - a lot of fun!

Mary
