Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our co-op is putting on a Christmas play this year and I'm in charge. I have the CHC book "Praise Him with Your Very Life" and we were thinking about doing the St. Francis play. Has anyone done this? Would it be too much for a group of 6-10 year olds (I kind of think it willl be)? Does anyone have any suggestions for a different play or should I try my hand at re-writing this one to make it simpler?

I have looked at those plays and as I recall they didn't especially appeal to me and secondly, yes, I recall they seemed geared for older children.

I wrote a play about St. Francis a couple of years ago! Our combination Little Flowers/Blue Knights clubs put it on for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is really a tableau (where the kids act out the different scenes in the life of St. Francis while a narrator tells the story). This was better than having speaking parts because the room we had didn't have more than one mike and the young children couldn't project their voices enough over the babble of babies and toddlers in the audience! Also, shyer children are more willing to just act if they don't have to memorize lines and speak. If you are interested I could try to hunt it up! But what I did was rely on Tomie de Paulo's telling (mostly). You could probably figure it out yourself if you have the time and inclination.

But I'll go hunting for the play. Just cuz now I'm curious as to whether I saved it or not!

Those plays by Mother Mary Francis I think were originally written for her cloistered Poor Clare sisters, so if you think they are too much, that would make sense.

BUT, I've seen remarkable things done by little ones. They are usually up for a good challenge.
