Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the past two years I like to refer to MODG and Laura Berquist books for a little guidance in forming our plan for the year.

I've notices she has a few other titles other than "Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum" and "Harp and Laurel Wreath". I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on these titles. Are they particularly targeted at MODG, or would they be helpful reading and helpful in planning?

Writing Manual
Teaching Tips & Techniques
Rubrics Charts (K-12)
Learning Objectives (K-12)

Thanks!

The best of these, IMHO, is the Teaching tips & techniques. It is a collection of her articles and talks on homeschooling. The writing manual is a booklet that describes the method of writing used in MODG, but would be helpful if you follow a CM or classical ed. in language arts. The rubrics and learning objectives are based on her curriculum but could be helpful to anyone sort of like "what your ___ needs to know" but not in detail like that.

I absolutely agree. She's got everything in there from articles about teaching littles to lots of GREAT info about teaching high schoolers. I go back to it yearly!

Another vote for Teaching Tips and Techniques.
We are enrolled with MODG and this books also helps me to understand the big picture of that program. Sometimes I wonder "Why on earth is she recommending this book at this time?" (or that assignment, or whatever) and Teaching Tips has helped me to understand the process of it all.
I also use the rubrics, but as I mentioned we're enrolled with the program and the rubrics help me to know what is expected of the child at various ages, and how to grade them for the report cards at the end of the year.

OK, can I completely flaunt my ignorance and ask where you are getting these other books by Laura Berquist? I would find it soooo helpful to see WHY she picks some of the books that she does.

I just got my son's new 7th grade syllabus and it does give the reasons for the book choices in that one... but all the older syllabi that I have from MODG don't.

Sacred Heart Books and Gifts also sells them.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I really appreciate it!

I borrowed this from a friend and love it. I'm hoping to buy it this summer. I don't currently use her curriculum but the tips are very thoughtful and helpful!

I was very fortunate to catch most of Laura Berquist's talk ("Ten Tips for Successful Homeschooling") at a local homeschooling conference this past Saturday. I am so looking forward to reading some of her works...unfortunately my library system doesn't have Teaching Tips and Techniques. I may have to bite the bullet and buy that one; I have a feeling that it will be a re-read for years to come after hearing her talk.

Another for LB's "Teaching Tips and Techniques." A friend of mine heard her speak and bought the book, showed it to me, and I almost couldn't let her have it back. Ended up ordering my own copy. It is taken off the shelf every month for me to refer to. Love it!

The Mother of Divine Grace Writing Manual is also very helpful. I believe that it can be purchased on Amazon.
