Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Moms~

So...there is this absolutely lovely state park near us that has wonderful, hands-on ranger programs appealing to all ages.

I called yesterday to get info for a field trip. They seem so nice...BUT...they need proof that we are an actual home schooling group in order to get in for free, like regular school groups (they usually have schools produce a letter, too).

We are a "group" that has a yahoo group, and we do meet regularly with specific goals (ie: the big girls do Little Flowers, boys do Blue Knights, etc)...

But...I think the ranger thinks that we are some official group...but he said we need that in order to have the park fees waived.

Any ideas how I approach this? My kids are too little for us to even register our children with the county yet...and some moms do...and some don't, for philosophical reasons.

Help, please!

A group I was once a part of made membership cards for everyone. They were just regular business cards printed on the computer of one of the members and they said something like "So and So Homeschoolers of X Location". We used to use these cards to get discounts at Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc.

I'm not sure your park ranger would accept that, but it might be worth a shot? Or maybe write a letter and include a picture of everyone together, doing activities?

One time our council required us to be a 'group' to hire a field for insurance purposes. So we 'took minutes' as we sat under the trees with position holders and all, and submitted a copy of our 'minutes' as proof of group status.

Does your state or school board require any type of yearly registration letter? A copy of that may suffice.

I would think a letter, with your group name and address as letterhead, would suffice.    They just need something to fulfill the requirement.

We presented several months copies of our newsletter (which has our mission statement and group history listed)and a list of our group's "service team" contact info. If you don't have something like this already you could probably pull something together fairly quickly. Also "official" proof could be provided by families compiling photocopies of their state homescoolong form.
