Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would like my 15 yr old son to read some books about young men who did amazing, heroic, hard things when they were young. I don't want a glam version of it, but a nitty gritty true account.

Can you help me out with either names or actual titles?

I knew a bunch yesterday, but aparently today I don't.

Carry on Mr Bowditch, perhaps?
Bear Gryll's autobiography called "The Boy Who Climbed Everest" or something like that. (He summitted when he was 23, I believe)
I know there are more. I will keep thinking and get back with you.

Do you mean saints or modern-times young men, or, perhaps, both?

And, how young?

I think the life of Pope John Paul II is pretty amazing. There are biographies available at several reading levels.

I have a couple names to include, but not book titles.

Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati - all his heroic faithfulness was as a young man, since he died so young.

Buffalo BIll Cody - starting as a young teen had many adventures and faced challenging/dangerous situations. Most stories state he was a rider for the Pony Express when he was only 15. He always claimed he was, though there are some who think he was not a rider. Regardless, he lead a pretty adventurous life which started at a young age.

Fred Dellenbaugh - as a 17 year old tralled with John Wesley Powell on his second expedition down the Colorado River and into the Grand Canyon. Just a few days ago while driving back from California we stopped at the JW Powell River History Museum. Interested in the expeditions, we are now going to do a little rabbit trail on the explorers. I recently requested this book about Dellenbaugh which looks intriguing, though I have not read it yet. The Wild Colorado: The True Adventures of Fred Dellenbaugh, Age 17, on the Second Powell Expedition into the Grand Canyon

I'm curious to hear the answer to Nancy's question to see if we are on the right track with suggestions.

I feel like the spokesperson for Ralph Moody since I recommend his books all the time, but the Ralph Moody books are great and authobiographical to boot. He's a bit younger in the first books (but does amazing things for 11!), but is quite a young man. They make great read alouds for the whole family, ime.
