Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Continuing with my desire to simplify, I ponder what to keep (and how much) for school records.

Advice, please.

My state doesn't require me to keep any records, so I don't. How's that for simple? ;) But I'm not in those upper grades yet--my oldest is 6th grade--so record-keeping is not essential.

I'd say this completely depends on what your state requires. Some states want lots of records (including attendance ), others don't require much.

I'm not required to keep records for my state, but I do keep a large notebook worth for each child at the end of the year. And I keep most things during the school year and then go through it in June and try and pick out the best examples of a particular subject, etc. Although, I'm half tempted to not even do that this year for the older kids. They are using binders for most of their subjects - they either write on the lined paper in it, or if they draw something, then they put it in a page protector and put it in the appropriate place in the notebook. But I look at them at the end of the year and see if we really need to keep all of it, or if I should move the best examples to a big notebook with dividers or something.

My state has no record-reporting. I try to keep a "portfolio" for each child. Right now that means each day's completed work goes into a file folder. Every few months, I sift through that and put a few examples from different subjects into a "keeper" folder for that child, that year. This way I'll have some idea how they've progressed over time, and some idea for placement or if I ever need to show "proof" of their education.

When they get to highschool, I'll have to keep track better and use tests or something to show "credits."
