Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone done the Montessori Great Lessons for older kids? I've been reading "Children of the Universe" and found there is a whole more intense and deep lesson set for this older group. I'd like to do it this year in Jan and Feb and am looking for ideas.

Thanks!

The lessons for the older children are essentially repeats of those for the younger children. The children will delve into different aspects of them and over the ensuing weeks of that school year, they can be tweaked - the idea is for the children to hear the same story at least one time every year for their approximately 6 years in elementary. This method provides a firm foundation for their explorations while allowing for adaptations - sort of a touchstone to keep coming back to.

Did that make sense?

This year was year four for us to do the great lessons. It was the first year that we will do all five. It is suggested that you just do one the first year and then add as you go on. The things that the kids discover each year to add to our timelines are wonderful!
CatholicMommy's web site has loads of great info. I like Barabara's Great lessons web site as another resource as well. It dove tails into Catechesis of the Good Shepherd so well for the 6 to 9 age when they have had these lessons for a year or two before.
