Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is our 7th year of homeschooling, things have been great until now. Our oldest daughter is 14 and in 9th grade. All her friends from our parish and the city orchestra are in public high schools and have so much to talk about.

Our daughter is part of the Life Teen (ugh!!) and she is well liked, but has very little to contribute in the other teens conversations much less have anything in common.

The closest ARCH group is an hour and a hlf away, we tried getting involved, but it's so much of a time issue with her studies (SETON) There is only one other family with children our daughters' age, but they are really isolated and very immature. We have a "christian' group in town, but they have in the past been very judgemental about us being Catholic.

Anyone else fighting the unhappiness of their High schoolers?

I was until they started Facebooking with friends and joining the Bored Online website. You might could look into that. I know there are some new Seton groups too from the Yahoo groups. This helps fill in the gaps of their loneliness.

We found volunteer work, as well as online friends, help with friendship. Volunteer work helps with getting out of the house, meeting other people, talking to others...volunteer work my younger teen sons have done have been in the parish, at the local library, at homeschool groups.

I have also set up various homeschool teen things over the years - in one state, a book discussion group; in the next place we lived, it was Games and Chess and Debating Club; currently we have a Homeschool Teen group that meets fortnightly. Don't know if this is a possibility for you, but it is a nice way to help teens connect.
