I am actually thinking of these in advance this year - I usually end up sticking and velcroing various fabrics together the night before!! Is there a source of reasonably priced costumes? I just cannot envision sewing them or coming up with anything. Things we have done in prior years which required little preparation:
- Padre Pio - my twins dressed in brown robes and were Padre Pio bilocating
- Saint Nicholas - red robe and I made a big red Mitre and a gold paper covered croisier
- Saint Patrick - like Saint Nicholas but in green
- Saint George and Saint Martin of Tours - easy with our many suits of armor and swords about the house
- Saint Juan Diego - brown robe with picture of Our Lady of Guadelupe pinned on
- Saint Therese - black robe with white turtle neck, cross and roses
- Saint Elizabeth of Hungary - long dress, basket of flowers
- Saint Cecilia - carrying musical instruments
Please share your ideas.

You have to check out Jessica's post on All Saint's day costumes. It is by far the most comprehensive I have seen.
Shower of Roses Saintly Costumes
We are going to be:
St. Cecelia (Rose tunic with a harp made out of cardboard)
St. Agnes( White tunic, blue scarf and a lamb)
Padre Pio (Brown Tunic, brown gloves with fingers cut off and blood stains and black beard)
St. Francis (Brown tunic, rope cord, wolf at his feet)

I put together this spreadsheet of easy costumes for our local group last year. It's on spreadsheets.google.com and AFAIK is publicly accessible. It is unfinished though

ok some that I've done..
St. Comgall - brown robe with cat toys mice pinned to it.
St. Elizabeth of Hungary.. princess with cape and roses pinned inside cape.
St. Lucy - white robe/dress with a red sash and a candle wreath on her head made out of white paper rolled into candles and gold cellophane for amazingly realistic flames.
St. Florian - patron of firefighters and is bacially a roman solider costume.. whatever is missing for armour or weaponry can usually be made with cardboard, duct tape and a stick or two.
If you have any animal costumes.. consider what might work nicely.. for instance.. Daniel in the lion's den with a lion.
Or perhaps a stuffed animal might suggest a costume.. I just noticed St. Melangell protected a rabbit.. She was a princess in Scotland but lived a commoner's life in Wales. So a simple dress with a plaid cloth cape or sash or shawl holding a stuffed rabbit.

Thank you ladies for sharing this so far, we hope to host a big party this year and I'd love to send out these sort of suggestions to families to help them with their costumes.

oh and as far as ones to buy.. Jedi Robes are suspiciously monk-like  the one my sister made for my oldest did double duty

I started this response a bit ago and got distracted so it seems the conversation/and suggestions have gone on quickly. I wanted to compile the past threads on this topic. There is a lot of good information there and links to pictures on blogs, etc.
And I agree that Jessica's post is awesome (as is her All Saint's party games one). So is stef's spreadsheet (which is included in past threads) and another great resource is Charlotte's blog which is linked in the past thread.

I know that Oriental Trading Co has costumes from time to time. Around Christmas (which in the retail world means right about now!)they feature a basic Nativity costume set with tunics in all sorts of colors and all for under $10. Brown, black, red, light blue, white, purple and dark blue. These tunics are GREAT for a base costume! You supply the accessories to turn it into a Saint costume!

Thanks Christine - actually after checking out the prices of costumes I am going to be making them - dd and i are going to set aside a couple of Sundays - she can sew better than I can.

We actually have several of their Nativity costumes because dd coerces her brothers to perform in a family nativity play each year. I will have to see what I can do with them. Thanks for reminding me of OTC - their props and crowns etc are reasonably priced

By the way, I can think of a few more idea's our family has tried:
St. Veronika: (my favorite, of course!) basic dress and sash, carrying a cloth diaper to which I spray glued a photocopy of the Holy Face from the shroud of Turin.
Sts Martha & Mary: (my twin girls liked this idea) Two basic dress/sash costumes. One carrying a wisk broom & dustpan, wearing an apron with dish rag and wooden spoon in the pocket. The other carrying an icon of Christ.
St. Juan Diego: Our costume is a little different in that I used a pillowcase for the tilma. I cut it up either side and cut a neck hole out of it. Using the same spray glue technique, I glued a picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe to the front and hot glued some fabric roses around the bottom. My son loved it except for the eyebrow pencil mustache. He cried till I wiped it off! Oh well, and it looked so cute too!
I hope they help somebody somewhere!

hmmm... could you maybe try again this morning? i just tried and it worked. i thought it has to do with me being signed in to google, so i signed out, but it's working.... so, if it still doesn't work, no idea. i may have to convert it to html.
