Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've never really observed All Souls and Saints days because there was never anyone to really do it with and our community is barely tolorant of halloween in some areas as it is.

But this year is different!
This year we are dressing as saints and going to a Catholic homeschool party!

Not once have I ever made a halloween costume and I'm a BIG halloween fan.

But this year I made SIX saints costumes!!

So I think it'd be fun to have an carnival along this theme! Send me your blog link (or just pictures if you don't have a blog) of the kids dressed up and/or what you did for All Souls and All Saints and even Halloween!! I'll add them to my blog on the 6th of November.

I'm so excited!

If this is in bad form to post here, then please remove it. I'll also post this to my blog.

ETA: Halloween entries welcome too!

We will be taking pictures tomorrow and will be happy to share! We just convinced the 3 year old to play the beggar to his older brother's St. Martin or Tours. So cute!!!

Im excited too, Martha, and I had contemplated posting about the same thing! We never did anything more than go to mass on All Saints Day and all we've ever done for All Souls was make sugar skulls.
I plan to be posting quite a bit in my own blog about the next few days, but here are some things we are going to be doing:

For Halloween: We have just carved pumpkins tonite and we will be going to a friend's house for her annual party and some trick-or-treating (I limit the number of houses we go to, but we do go). My son will be dressed as a Roman Soldier (he has not clue of the historical meaning of that from a Christian perspective, he just loves anything military). He already went trick-or-treating at the Little Sisters of the Poor home local to us, dressed as St. Francis.

For All Saints: My son attended his CCD All Saints event dressed in the St Francis costume I made him...my VERY FIRST ANYTHING sewn with sleeves, so I was pretty darn proud of it.
We are making SPOON SAINTS YAY! We went and got the spoons at the craft store today.
We are also going to have soul cakes as an after-dinner treat. We will still go to mass in the evening :-).

For All Souls: We are making Mexican Sugar Skull COOKIES this year because I cant find the skull molds and, frankly, those sugar skulls are not what I consider edible, anyway. I found some food coloring magic markers at the craft store and we will use them to decorate the skull-shaped cookies.
I have begun to create a display of old photographs of loved-ones who have gone on to Heaven before us. I plan to use this as a discussion-started with my son on All Souls Day.

My blog link is at the bottom of all my posts...please feel free to check out the pictures over the coming days and I will do the same. And please feel free to leave a comment on my blog...it's pretty new and nobody really reads it so there are not many comments there...sure would be more fun if there were! :-)

And here's Pumpkin Carving Night

Yeah, sleeves are tricky, aren't they? I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

Our middle dd went to her CCD All Saints party on Sunday, and only 4 kids dressed as saints. There was St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (my daughter), St. Elizabeth of Hungary, St. Fracis, and St. Joseph. All the others said that they "forgot". Oh well.

With all the illness my costume making never took off. But - with the help of OTC and me making the mitres - plus our already available knight's armor set - we will have Saint Nicholas, Saint Patrick, Saint George and Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. Also a little Michael the Archangel if he lets me put the wings on. I will try to send photos before we go to our All Saints party tomorrow.

If only we lived in a sub-tropical area...it would be a non-issue!

I'd love to send you pics of our crew of saints - We had Saint John Guillbart (15 yo dd), St. Stephen, king of Hungary, St Bertrand Le Mans (patron saint of agriculture chosen by the science fan), St. Anthony of Padua and St. Jude.   We always have a unique set of Saints - last year we had someone from the Theban legion and a Japanese martyr whose name I cannot recall now. Wish I could send photos but dh does not like me posting them on the internet. The children scour our oop books so that no one can guess who they are and they are usually quite successful at that part of it, and in the process we learn a bit about saints we weren't likely to come across in everyday reading.

Hi Martha

I sent you a photo from Kodak - I do not have a blog. (I sent it to the email on your blog). Let me know if you got it?
