Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could we choose one artist and one musician per month, start a thread for each and study four prints and four pieces of music right here on the boards? Anybody up to being the one to post the artist and the four pictures? someone else to post a musician and four pieces of music?

I'm probably not the one to post on music but there was this Year of Composers posted that would be a great guide.

Where's Kelly?

I'm so unmusical (is that a word?) that my littlest boy won't even let me sing him lullubies. "Mama, that's sounds awful. You can just be quiet and hold me."

I was a music major in college and grew up in a music home-both parents have music degrees.

I would be willing to be the music person IF its something I could handle. What exactly would my job be?

I would be able to post a musician and the names of four pieces that you listen to yourself. Is that what you mean? I could even give people a list ahead of time so they can make sure they have the CD or whatever they'd use. Or did you want a link provided where people download and listen, if so I'm not sure I could do that since I don't know how (I could learn). There might be someone better for the job.

Is this what you mean, Elizabeth?

I'd be willing to do the art study if it only involves what Sarah said - naming an artist and posting 4 pictures. Although my parents both went to art school, I received very little of their ability/understanding. Guess that's 'cause I'm adopted.

But I *am* computer savvy enough to pick an artist, find some links about the artist, and link pictures into the forum posts...just not lead a discussion on the study, so I will bow out to anyone who wants to do that!

Volunteers...hooray! I'll contribute but can't organize right now. I have this selfish music study option to offer for consideration . Don't worry, I'll love you all if your have other ideas .

As for art study, I've been wanting to coordinate our study in a similar fashion to our music study but haven't done as much as I would like. I would be very interested in this idea as well.

Love,

I'm still thinking of the most practical way that everyone could easily hear the music since there are thousands of CD's to comb through out there.

I tend to like the CD's that are a mix of different composers, thus giving you more options.

If I were to just list the titles of pieces, I think it might be hard to acquire sometimes.

Hmmm . . .any ideas?

I'll keep thinking.

I also blew the dust off some of my "Listening guides" from college/high school so I might follow an order they suggest. . . stay tuned .

I suggested this Masters of Classical Music box set on Mater Amabilis because it gives you a lot of music for the money - ten CDs of music by different composers for $25. The composers covered are Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, Wagner, Tchaikowsky, Vivaldi, Chopin, Schubert and Verdi. Might be a practical option for a year's composer study. Another option would be this Instruments of Classical Music set. Listening to a different instrument each month could be fun, and would give more variety in musical style. The instruments included are flute, oboe, trumpet, French horn, violin, cello, piano, organ, harpsichord and guitar.
