We are big Legos fans but both of these, Zoob and Zometool look interesting. I dont like to buy a lot of toys so when I choose one I hope it will be entertaining, educational, sturdy, etc., etc. So I am wondering if anyone has experience with either of these?

We have Zometools and think they are great. Lots of hours of entertainment. They are an extremely educational toy, too if you utilize them for that. The mathematical principle behind how they are desinged enable to you build and demostrate numerous principles in math and science. They have lessons plans and teaching ideas on-line and in some of the specific sets. They have won lots of awards. Anyway I think they are fantastic. (Might be biased, too, since they were invented here and we used to go to the little shop that sold them before they got BIG.)

We never had the Zoob ones but have played with them at other locations - and the kids got bored with them pretty easily - maybe that was becuase they tried small sets only and there wasn't that much you could do with them. THey are probably better for pretty young children though as the ZOme tools require more manual dexterity.

Thx for you reply Mary. I notice your children are a bit older than mine. Do you think the Zometools are too advanced for 4 and 6?

Sunny, while my kids are older now we have had them since the oldest was about 9. I know all ages find them intriguing. They are recommended for ages 6 to adult. Younger than that would be frustrated with the small holes the rods have to fit into. Six year olds aren't going to be able to do the detailed science math activities, but they could build random shapes. FOr the money they definitely will be a building system that will grow with the child.
