Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am revisiting Laying Down the Rails and going to also do the Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge posted by Kim . My biggest problem I had last summer trying to implementing new habits was checking on them. I told my dc we were going to put things away as soon as we were done with them. Inevitably, I would walk through the house (or go up to their bedrooms) and see stuff everywhere. Now I did give reminders when I would see stuff, but it wasn't enough. I feel like at least every morning/evening I need to go through the house to see if they have put away clothes and toys. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep up with it? I feel so outnumbered and have a hard time making sure they are picking stuff up.

I'm the wrong person to answer because I struggle with this, but I have had some success lately that I can share. We read the Bible verse about "those that don't work shouldn't eat" and it was kind of tongue-in-cheek but I told them that if their chores aren't done, they don't get their next meal. Then, I assigned the chore of "picking up everything that belongs to you and putting it away where it belongs" to each child. So, if they had toys, or socks, or whatever on the floor, they would have to pick them up before they could have their meal. It only took a few reminders, and I do have to make a quick run through of the house to check, but now they do it almost automatically. So I know that at least 3 times a day everything is going to get picked up.

I've never used Becky's bible verse, but I do use meal times as "checkpoints."   Before we eat, I tell them they need to walk around and make sure their things are away. Food is always a great motivator, so it works pretty well for us!

I think I will try checking before meals. I can't follow 6 kids around all day making sure they pick up after themselves.

We do checks before meals, snacks, out outings too. Though all toys, etc. are pretty much shared, so everyone helps with it all.
