Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Why is Youth Mass always in the evening?

If you have tweens/teens, do they mind not attending a Youth Mass or do they love going to it?

Are people really stuck on the idea that Sunday evenings are for youth group, or not?

I find myself wishing our parish had just one Mass every Sunday. Right now we have six Masses every weekend. I miss all the families we used to see that have moved to the evening Youth Mass and would miss the "Sunday morning families" if WE started attending the YM. (Which we wouldn't since it's far too late in the day for our little kids and don't care for the music either.)

Y'know, I spent some quality time searching through old threads on youth groups, youth mass and life teen last night after I posted this, so I found out that the issue of "segregation" has come up before. So unless someone really wants to go through this again, don't feel obligated to respond to my post. It's enough to know that this is a common concern (and can often lead to a contentious discussion). So thanks for listening to my griping. Back to your regularly scheduled discussions....

LeeAnn, I can't address the whole youth Mass thing.. and only have one child that could really be called pre-teen.. but I can address the wish for only one Mass on Sunday. That's what we have. And while it is nice for somethings it's very restrictive. What happens if you have sick kids? there's only one Mass so either you or dh have to miss Mass that week. What happens if you have perhaps less necessary things? a child's activity early sunday morning? There is no vigil Mass for you to manage both. What if you work rotating shifts? or periodically must work on Sunday mornings? no option.

So it's nice for what you're thinking but it can be difficult in many other ways too.
