Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The rain is officially here , and now that it's here, it probably won't let up much till....say....June. Our afternoons have gotten to be very long and even though we still go outdoors every day, we don't last nearly as long as we did in the summer. I'm trying to brainstorm creative/fun activities we can do indoors in the afternoons to liven them up (and keep us sane). So far I've got:

watercolor painting
play-dough/ beeswax modeling
moonsand
knitting/crochet
drawing time
embroidery? (I haven't tried this, but there was a great description of how to do this with young children in
The Creative Family by Amanda Blake Soule)
dancing to music
baking/cooking

Do you have any other ideas? I feel like I need a big pool to choose from.

My girls (8,6,5 and 2) will play dress up for hours. Do you have a little kitchen and dishes? That takes up time, too. They love their doll house as well.

We aren't very creative here, but they get out scissors, glue, scrap paper and colored pencils and make huge messes!

And don't forget Teatime after you bake!

Keeping in mind that I only have very littles (both 2yo's), here are a few things from my list:

finger (and other) puppets
lots and lots of read-alouds
bubbles
any kind of make-believe game
puzzles
play-doh
musical instruments

Great thing to brainstorm about, Sarah!

**doll house
**dress up
**lots of cutting and pasting goes on around here
**variety of craft books for them to peruse
**lots of messy cooking
**bathtime can be AT LEAST an hour
**butcher paper on walls for big murals
**puzzles
**games-
**"setting up" in different rooms always helps - today we're in my bedroom while I sort through papers and get caught up on filing.
**playing store
**pretend airplane rides last at least an hour!

Yesterday they did finger knitting for about an hour!

build a tent in the middle of the living room

Hullabaloo is a neat game that just about any age can play that is active.. you have these little mats that you lay around the room and everyone goes to a red one or to a square one.. and it has the electronic "caller" to tell you what to do and then randomly selects a winner (if you're standing on the Guitar, you're the winner, winner take a bow)

Thank for this! I'm making a list. We've been totally crazy here lately and I can't seem to keep my 3yo girl and 6 yo boy out of trouble. The baby is starting to get into everything, too, so it's been a zoo!

A good collection of puzzles and a cut and paste box and a bin of watercolor supplies have often come to our rescue here.
