I have one 6 year old and another due in January, praise God! We did Sonlight Core B last year with a dash of FIAR books. I thought about taking their Core K list and reading all of those AND doing more FIAR books, but I don't know if it's too much for me. I don't know why I don't want to let either program go and was just wondering if any others manage to do both with one child and how you do it. I would not buy the Core K, I would just check out the reading lists from the library. I guess I fear that if I stick to FIAR picture books then Bernadette would be missing out on all the great books for her age level from the Sonlight list. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, I own much of SL preK and we read those books a lot (right now my dd is in love with Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day?) and we are doing FIAR for "school".

I don't think you can ever read too many stories.

So are you saying that the FIAR books are scheduled in your homeschool planner and then the Sonlight books you read for enjoyment on the side?

For a while I used FIAR as my main curriculum, and used the Sonlight booklists just for ideas of books to check out from the library. That worked really well for us. I didn't feel bogged down by so much to do, but the children were exposed to lots of great literature. I really think you can't go wrong with FIAR in the early years. From what I've heard, using the Sonlight lesson plans as they are presented can be very overwhelming, though I admit I haven't tried it, so I can't really say for myself. I just know how much I love FIAR and I've had lots of success using the Sonlight catalog simply as a booklist for items to check out from the library.

more or less. except of course I dont even have a planner. I just wing it. LOL My row-er is only 3 almost 4.
