Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does such a service exist?

I am looking for someone to help us to discern the educational direction for our DD. Someone who can objectively look at our familiy's situation, our DD's needs/interests/strengths/learning style, and advise us from there.

Oh... I am driving myself crazy! Doing searches here, and elsewhere, but all of the advice in the world doesn't mean much, when I am looking for advice for *us*.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

What comes to mind is Mercy Academy. They have learning assessments to help you figure out your child's learning style. Then they give you suggestions, specific ones, for materials that might work with each child. They don't have their own "program" so you really get suggestions tailored to your child and your situation.

I signed up with them one year for my oldest and did find them helpful. I am just really bad at following others' instructions. Now that I am looking at it again, I might look into it for us again. Thanks!!

On closer examination, it looks like they (Mercy Academy) have developed a program of study. You would probably need to check with them to see how individualized their program is.

If nothing else, the whole learning assessment process is very helpful.

STAA-homeschool is also a loosely structured program that I believe works very closely with the families.

That's the one I thought of too. Andrea Chen has a doctorate in psychology and is very interested in the different "types" of homeschooling children and families. I don't know much about the academy but I have heard feedback that hsers who tried them found the learning assessments quite valuable.

I would second the vote for St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, because that is exactly what they do.

http://www.staa-homeschool.com

I have been enrolled with them for the past three years, so if you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me. The name of the director of the program is Deborah Yonan. You could direct your quesions to her.

Good luck.
