I'm finally giving in to the fact that a Real Learning environment is going to have to include videos here(I had been radically anti-TV for awhile because my kids tend to turn into complete zombies for as long as the TV is on, then cranky when it's off!)  Yes it's partially for MY mental health  but also because they enjoy them so much and learn very well from the visuals. They love all things video!
We currently have (and love) the Leap Frog Letter factory, and I'm going to get the next one up (word factory?). We have Prima Latina on DVD, and I'm also going to get the Signing Time videos.
We don't care what kind of subject matter, as long as it's GOOD - science, math, history, languages, whatever! My girls are almost 8, almost 6, 2, and 4 months.
So what are your favorites? I know I can trust this group to give me "like minded" ideas - you ladies are a Catholic-Montessori-Charlotte-Mason-and-liturature-Loving-Cl oset Unschoolers dream! . TIA!!

We like the Creative Communications Center Catholic videos. We only own Nicholas-The Boy Who Became Santa and Fatima. We have seen many of the others at relatives homes.
We must get the DK Amazing Animal Videos out of the library each time we go. We borrowed 4 of them today.
We own a couple of Veggie Tales and borrow others from the library. They always make me laugh!

I second the DK Amazing Animals and most of the CCC videos (though not all of them).
Also the Real Wheels series is lots of fun. My kids learned a lot about airplanes, trains, buses, garbage trucks, emergency vehicles and police cars.
There is a companion series called "Real Animals" that has fabulous videos on whales, horses and cats but I can't find any links for you right now.
We found all of these videos at our library.

Among my favorites (in no particular order) are:
The old Bell Lab science videos (hard to find now) . They are a bit outdated, but fun and interesting. My favorite is the one on cosmic radiation because it shows the history of the scientific investigation. (They do contain some evolutionary content, but I will still use materials I like even if they contain ideas I consider dubious.)
Life of Birds series
Magic School Bus
Beethoven Lives Upstairs (with some discussion on whether being a genius exempts a person from the moral law or even common courtesy)
The Peanuts video on the Constitutional Convention.
Two Good and Noble Men
A More Perfect Union (about the Constitutional Convention)
Julius Caesar and other plays by Shakespeare
El Cid
Becket
A Man for All Seasons
The Agony and the Ecstasy
Pride and Prejudice and other works by Jane Austen (NOT the horrible big screen version of Mansfield Park* -- the BBC one is fine)
*The only thing the book and that movie have in common are the names of the characters. Yech.
Obviously, we use videos at all ages! Some of these are appropriate only for older students. I also use other things -- tv shows and whatnot -- for social skills and social understanding instruction for my autistic kids.

This is all just my $.02....
Becket is definitely for high school aged kids or older as the king and pre-bishop Becket refer to whoring I believe, and the king is quite abusive to his son and nasty to his wife.
El Cid should be okay for mature jr. high or high school students as it deals with duels non-romantically (imo), marital separation, and so on. You would also need to add some historical context as the Muslims weren't really as good as they are portrayed. Any alliance with Muslims would be a temporary thing as their ultimate aims were irreconciliable with Catholic ones. It is also interesting to discuss the strict code of honor held by El Cid -- and the dishonorable behavior of the Prince (I think he was a prince) What's-His-Name. (Can you tell it's been years since I saw this film?)
A Man for All Seasons makes references to Henry VIII's immoral behavior and also shows the corrupt and venal behavior of some courtiers or would be courtiers. It is suitable imo for mature jr. high or high school students.
The Agony and the Ecstasy (I don't remember this one as well) should also be good for mature jr. high or high school students. A child should be able to understand that while the popes have mostly been very good men, they are still quite fallible. Pope Julius was also much more war-like than we are accustomed to; a student needs to be able to understand why he was fighting. It's also easy to see that the abuse of indulgences could arise in such circumstances.

Thank you! I appreciate the reviews. My oldest is at that age where he's ready for some of this stuff, but not all of it. Its so hard to tell without previewing everything ahead of time!

We found a new series today.
The Big Adventure Series
by
Little Mammoth Media
1999 by Time-Life kids
VanDerKloot Film & Television, Inc.
They have one on Aircraft Carriers (we watched this one and it is excellent for K thru 4th)the Space Shuttle, Zoo, Aquarium, Yellow Stone Nt'l Park and a couple of others. Got it at the library.

We like the Eyewitness videos. We have Pond, Arctic/ Antarctic, Desert, River, and Jungle. We have enjoyed many more of them from the library.
Don't forget Schoohouse Rock! It is THE BEST!
We love the Leapfrog Letter Factory, too. Number Circus is good, but not as good, and the word one we just got, so I'm not sure about it yet.
For very littles we like the Maisy videos. We have Maisy's ABC and it is very cute. My 2 yo grandson loves it.
Has anyone seen the Baby Einstein stuff? Any opinions on that?

David Macaulay has some great videos out that go with his books. They are full of information and on several of them he has an animated portion that brings to life the topic he is discussing.
Roman City
Pyramid
Cathedral
Castle
Mill - my favorite
and he also has a fairly new set of videos called Building Big. He examines and discusses the world's superstructures.
Tunnels
Dams
Skyscrapers
Domes
Bridges
We also watch a lot of NOVA videos. The most recent was Tales from the Hive on how bees live with real shots inside the hive.
We love Who's Afraid of Opera series. Opera singer Joan Sutherland does an abridged version of famous operas while discussing the plot with 3 puppets between the acts.

We have Baby Beethoven, but haven't seen any of the others in the series. The video shows different toys, puppets, and colorful gadgets moving to the sounds of Beethoven's different symphonies. It's definitely geared towards littles (infant to, say, 5yo?), though my older boys (and I  ) watch pieces on occasion too. We're easily entertained!

I would have to second Deborah's recommendation of the Magic School Bus videos. My children LOVE these and have learnt so much. Even my 12 yr old still loves these, perfect for your girls age group.
I'm interested to hear what everyone else recommends as we don't have any other educational videos

My 2, 4, and 6 year olds love Disney's Little Einsteins - it mixes animation, live video and classical music.
