Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're all in the throes of nasty coughs and colds .
This makes it all the more frustrating when I do get the energy together to go over work only to be told - "I don't know where my book is." Today it's the Latin book - another day it might be math or whatever...

Each of my children has their own sturdy, portable cube to keep their school books in - the girls also each have their own desks. I don't think we are lacking in organizational type equipment but I don't know that it matters if they don't put the books where they should go!!!

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? I would never have thought that this would be a homeschool problem - the Latin book is in the house - yet it seems determined to elude us today! AARRGH!

Sorry, no solutions. Just lots of empathy! Certainly been there, done that.

You could try putting it as the last thing on the checklist or whatever you do to give them assignments.

"Make sure books are put away."

Then of course, you have to follow up

I used to not let them go off and play until they could show me their checked-off checklists with the clean-up/put-away time as the last item -- but I slipped on that with the more recent set of kids.

Another thing -- have Plan B for when the book is determined to stay elusive.   Cards for Latin drill, or making up sentences using the vocabulary and grammar they know.... or skip the Latin and do a thorough schoolroom cleaning together

I know how it feels -- so frustrating !!

We just try to make it a habit of saying, "Are the books in their right place?" when we're done. Sometimes the right spot is a big stack on the kitchen counter, but at least we know that the counter is one of the spots, if it's not in the bin.

I agree. That is the best advice I could give as well. Once we finish for the day (or the week, if it has been one of those weeks) I ask them to grab all their books and put them away. My oldest is pretty self sufficient about this, but the younger two do need to be reminded pretty regularly. Consistency will make it a habit.

That said, we still have the occasional misplaced library book and missing textbook. That's when you learn to improvise!

I found the Latin book on Sunday in a pile I could swear I had already sifted through.

I think we have pixies.

Dd has been working in the book this morning and then came to me and said "I can't find my Latin folder."

I will make a more conscience effort to ask if they have put their books away - I am starting a major clean, so hopefully I can find everything, get it where it is supposed to be and then work out some kind of reminder to follow up.

I have started putting sticky notes on books to help the girls keep track of assignments - I can put a book reminder there.

So frustrating! But at least we're all feeling a little better.
