Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a 4 yr plan for religion for ds.

This year is a study of each book of the Bible I called 'Introduction to the Scriptures'.

10th grade is going to be Catholic doctrine, the daily readings and apologetics. I know what I am going to use for doctrine and the readings, but I need some help for apologetics. Ds responds much better to real books than to any programs. I'm knocking around the idea of using some Scott Hahn tapes (not sure which ones, though...suggestions welcome) and I do want to use A Philadelphia Catholic to kick off the apologetics portion. I need something the covers the same territory as the Friendly Defenders cards, but with a little more detail. Any recommendations?

What about Amy Welborn's "Prove It" series?

We've been using the Beginning Apologetics series. Besides this I just bought a bunch of books that dd/we can read in bits and pieces -- Surprised by Truth, Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons, By What Authority, Pope Fiction, Where is That in the Bible, etc.

DD-16's favorite has always been the Philadelphia Catholic book though. She also uses the "Prove It" Bible for her daily reading.

Hi Books!

I second (or third?) the prove it! series.

Also...remember those tapes Rhonda always mentioned on SL-Cath? My daughter really liked listening to those....Bible Christian Society, I think?

I took a look at the Beginning Apologetics series. They look very much like what I am looking for. How much time would you alot for each workbook you choose to do? I have some adult level books, Surprised By Truth, etc, that I may also use...but I'm thinking mostly just for inspirational reading rather than for picking apart and studying. How are you planning to build your course?

Hey Laura,

Can you ask your dd which tapes she particularly enjoyed? I forgot about those, and if I remember correctly, they were pretty inexpensive...maybe even free?

The Prove It books are great. I will third or fourth that recommendation.

Hi Books,

We love these free audio cds and, if you check out the website, there are booklets to go with them.

This isn't apologetics material per se but I saw it today and am so impressed I ordered it right away!!

Common Ground

I think one of the key things to learn along with the actual defense of the faith is how to do it lovingly and respectfully and this DVD seems to demonstrate both.

Books, sorry I missed your question. We spend one evening (3 hours or so) per question -- we read from the Bible and other sources, the BA book, and then discuss. It's slow going but very rewarding. We're not done with all the books yet, and will plan what's next when we are!
