Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all --

I'm wondering if anyone here has used the CHC middle-school lesson plans, and what you thought of them. My 10yo will be a 5th grader next year, and while we're fairly unschooly around here, he really thrives on a certain level of structure and order, and I'm wondering whether having some more directed plans to carry out would be of benefit to him. I'm especially curious about their study guide/plans for From Sea to Shining Sea, which we have already -- not sure how useful the rest would be to us, but you can't buy those plans separately from the rest.

Anyway, this is the kind of child who likes to sit down and work through "work," if you know what I mean -- loves workbooks with the lessons laid out. He loves to have something to do, rather than thinking up something to do (as opposed to my oldest, who specializes in re-inventing every single wheel she encounters to suit her own freewheeling style). I am not a great planner and carrier-through of my own plans and am thinking that just having a schedule to work through might be good for us.

Anyway . . . not even sure what I'm asking here, except that I would love to hear others' reviews of this resource before I think more seriously about purchasing. I have used some of their materials, chiefly High School of Your Dreams, which we have liked, and their phonics program, which we've only partially used. Their materials always look so lovely, though they seem light on the literature for my taste. I'm sure we'd tweak plans and supplement with lots of independent reading and learning no matter what we had. I've never gone for a full planned-out curriculum like this before, so I feel a bit unsure about it all.

Please enlighten me!

Thanks,

Sally

Here's a discussion we had about it. Maybe you can find some helpful advice there?
