I just ordered a diaper bag and a Moby Wrap Baby Carrier. I'm not sure what other things we need for the baby, but when we moved 2 years ago I got rid of a lot of our baby items. I tend to get rid of things when they're not needed and try to replace them from thrift stores if possible. My neighbor just gave me an infant car seat that is only a year old.
How many onesies, sleepers, blankets does a baby need?
How about essentials for the mom?
I went to the baby section at Target and got a little overwhelmed with all of the things available for babies. It was fun, though.
I can't wait to hold this little miracle.

I pared down so much with my current baby, but honestly, I'm just so excited that your little girl is almost here, I can't get my brain together to give any numbers on anything.

Ruth, I have only had the 2 babies, but these are things that I can think of at this time. Some others moms will have some good suggestions as well.
I am not good with numbers, but with my babies, I felt like there was never enough onesies and sleepers, especially since my kids had *explosive* diapers. I think I had 3-4 blankets for home (different fabrics for warmth, swaddling, tummy time, etc), and 1-2 for going out. I like Gymboree blankets (big rectangle ones), as they are big enough for swaddling and nursing modestly. I am a pacifier mom, and I LOVED those pacifier holders that attach to the clothes, so the babies don't spit them on the floor. My other favorite (and NUMEROUS) item in my home was cloth diapers as burp cloths. I stashed those ALL over the house.
For you, Lanolin, nursing pads (I think disposable is good for when your milk comes in, and I liked the Lansinoh brand myself), comfortable pillows for sitting on and nursing. The hospital will give you one of those big cups for water while you are there, and that is PERFECT for keeping hydrated at home. I loved that.
Ruth, I am so excited that things are so close! My brain is going foggy since it is almost bedtime, but I'm sure others will have better suggestions!
Prayers!

I had baby #3 last friday(cant believe she's almost a week old already!) and i have a ton of onesies. I dont now if i'll need them all but she does change maybe 1-2x a day. The onesies were from my other 2 daughters and then my friends got me a ton as well. I have about 6 sleepers i think and that's been enough for us. I use the Miracle Blanket at nighttime to swaddle her but regular blankets during the day. I have maybe about 6 of those. I bring one along to cover me up when im out. My mom did make me a poncho type nursing cover and i think that will be very useful. I used cloth diapers as burp cloths too. I used teh Gerber ones. They werent too thick. My friend gave me some and they're just way too thick for me to bring along in our diaper bag. It was a different brand than the gerbers i got before. I also have about 8-10 baby towels. I dont think you'd need that many but again, accumulation from my other 2 and then a few were given to me as gifts for this baby. In fact, if i didnt have any already, i'd just use regular towels(we have a few smaller towels) for the baby.

A massage. A pedicure. Sleep. Lots of prayers. Two warm arms to hold that precious little one tight.
We will start the prayers and I hope you can find the rest!
Oh, and my babies always wore the little baby bag gowns before moving up to onesies. I loved my little bags o'baby!

Ruth, I'm so excited that she's almost here!!!
Having just gotten my hair done, I was making a mental note that I need to do that before I have the baby. The pedicure idea sounds so wonderful, too.
As far as baby supplies, I never had enough burp cloths (I used cotton cloth diapers, like Fuzzy). But I had a major spitter.
Stroller? Borrow a baby swing? I admit to using the bouncy seat, too.
Nursing Breast pump supplies? Nursing Pillow? Nursing pjs? Robe for hospital?

we did not go anywhere without the pilot cap from hanna andersson. I think I got mine on sale, but the best 10.00 I ever spent!
LOTS of nursing pads for this mom is a must!
maybe a cozy outfit or two for yourself? I got a velour sweat suit type outfit that I wore just as fast as I could wash it those first 2-3 weeks or so- it doubled as pajamas, but COULD make its appearance in public if it had to
If you are feeling energetic how about doubling a recipe or two and throwing it in the freezer?
I like the gowns, or the footed cotton sleepers with zippers, (target has these- or hanna andersson) much easier in the middle of the night half asleep than all those darn snaps!
praying for you!

The Swaddle Me was a lifesaver for this momma who is totally inept at swaddling - how do those nurses at the hospital do it??? My 11 month old ds lived in those - night and day for sleeping. And best of all, there's a little hole in the back so you can put the car seat buckle through it and swaddle them in their car seats for outings.
Can't wait to hear that this precious girl is here!

Ruth,
You need to come "girl shopping" at my house! I have been planning on clearing out most of my girl clothes anyway, to make room for all those blue clothes. I would love to pass stuff on to you. With two girls born in December, I should have plenty of warm things for your sweetie.
Give me a call.

I think I tried to stock my frezzer and make sure I was making large amounts of whatever we were eating to make left-overs. I love the pedicure and manicure too It is nice to feel pretty after you have just given birth. (My husband painted my toes for me the night before I went into labor, because I couldn't reach my toes anymore!)
A quick trip to the library is nice too, so you can stock up on good books to read during nursing times. If you like tea, I would stock up on some Mother's Milk tea or the tea from Earth Mama Angel Baby.
For baby: Lots of clean blankets, diapers, onesies, socks and hats. And of course, lots of cuddles, kisses, whispering, singing, touching and introducing her to all her playmates!
I will be praying for you and your family! God bless and congratulations!!!

I always used the "puddle pads" in the car seat and in the bed. When they are so small it seemed like we had more leaks and the pads saved me from tons of laundry.
I agree about the pilots caps from Hanna-they are great!
Best wishes!

Thank you all for your wonderful advice. I had no idea how much I gave away. I've never heard of those Pilot caps. They look so cute. I also love that Swaddle Me blanket.
Wow! A massage and a pedicure. I never would've thought of that. I've never had that done.
Molly, I'll have a box of baby boy clothes to bring you late next week. They look brand new. I got them from my neighbor this weekend. I gave them to Marilyn on Tuesday, but most of them are too small for her gorgeous little boy.
Thank you for your prayers. I definately can use them right now.

Another vote for a pilot cap...I *love* them!
And I swear by a baby swing for those moments when I really need two hands, a sling won't work, and I don't want to leave the baby on the floor where my 2 yr old might try to jump over the baby or "touch" a newborn's eyes...
I've got about 5 weeks and here is what I'm thinking about....
Baby bags (better than footed sleepers)
1/2 dozen blankets
cloth diapers for burp cloths
a nice blanket or two
some kind of car seat jacket if you live where its cold (someone else started a thread about these recently)
Diapers and whatever you like for cord care
baby bathtub and soap
binkies if you use those...
car seat ready and installed in the car before you go into labor
Now...someone remind me what I am supposed to pack for the hospital? For some reason, that is really stumping me!
