Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies. Those of you who have 'circle time' please would you share what you include? I feel our circle time isnt quite 'gelling' we need a more rhythmic time, i think.
Thank you
Lynn

We do circle time, and my kids love it. It's probably their favorite part of school.

Currently, it looks like this:

*Pledge of Allegience
*Morning Offering
*1 decade of the rosary (using our giant rosary we made)
*a few songs (usually they go with whatever the sound of the week is, so     currently we're singing You Are My Sunshine and Jesus Loves Me)
*1-2 poems

And that's it. I like to keep it simple. I change the poem each week, again, usually keeping to the theme of our Sound of the Week, and I change the song each week, unless the kids haven't learned it yet.   It takes anywhere from 15-30 min. depending on how cooperative everyone is.

Our circle times are still evolving as I continue to learn about Waldorf, but this is how it stands now. We start off our time with Bible reading, sing a praise chorus or a hymn and sing a few seasonal songs and fingerplays. Then we have our math practise time. I ask a few questions of each child or we do some rhythm exercises for the math facts. We also try to have some active activity as well. Right now we are practising skipping, my ds is having a hang of a time getting this down. We may do some body exercises or clapping exercises.

This usually takes about 45 min. The kids love this time. It is a great way to start the day.

Blessings,
Julia

Our circle time actully starts with a stretching session with daddy before he goes to work.

We do much of the above but also do a weather check and use a lot of American Sign Language review during this time using poems/songs.

It the past we have used a song/poem that stays the sames yet changes to reflect the month/season to tie thing in for the little ones- like chicken soup with rice or alligator pie.

Ahhh, 45 minutes! What a dream!

Our Circle Time is 10 minutes, MAX! Of course, I have 2 two-year olds in attendance, so we make it quick, quick, quick. We sing a few songs (usually the kids each pick one), then do a quick Bible devotional about making Right Choices (about 1 minute of reading) and then another song.

Then I "release" the 2 year olds to go play, and I do memory work with the 7 and 4.5 year old.

Stretching our Circle Time to 45 minutes sounds just wonderful, but we are not there yet. However, for me, its just about bringing everyone together, even if its brief. They all look forward to it, and I know this time will grow and expand as the years go by.

Shawna, that 45 min. is for my 8 & 6 yr. olds. My almost 5 yr. old is long gone by the time we get to 45 min. We are lucky if she stays around for 20 min.

We used to do circle time. Hmmm, maybe we should start again!

We did

calander and weather
days of the week, months of the year song
other songs (or usually musical instruments)
A couple of review games - my son's favourite was spinning the globe, shut your eyes, point and name the continent/ocean you landed on.
