I have a friend who is hosting an 'All Saints' celebration, and she asked me for some saintly ideas.
 My mind, went blank!
So I was wondering, what ideas/activities do you have for celebrating these holidays?
 Care to share?

I'll post some of the great older discussions we've had:

  All Saints Craft Ideas

  All Saints and All Souls

 Halloween

 All Saints Scavenger Hunt

And I look forward to incorporating more "Day of the Dead" traditions for All Souls Day.

I went to a nameday party last year for a girl named after St. Katherine of Alexandria. All the children played "Pin the crown on St. Katherine". You could play Pin the Halo on the saint, choosing whatever saint you wanted. Or you could have a female said who was a queen or princess (Helen, Elizabeth or Our Lady among others) and have the girls try to pin a crown on her and a male saint who is traditionally depicted with a sword (James, Michael, or George among others) and have the boys play pin the sword on him.

Thanks Jenn, I pointed her in this direction.
I am still trying to figure out how to do some of the "day of the dead" stuff here... I really wanted to do the hot chocolate, but my kids can't have chocolate!

ETA: Christina, I like that idea

I shared the ideas from an All Saints party we had a few years ago, it was so much fun! Here is the post.

We've always called the Scavenger Hunt "St. Anthony's Scavenger Hunt" :) We've also done it where each child dresses as a saint and prepares a short talk about his particular saint and everyone else has to guess who he is. We've also done a Corporal Works of Mercy relay race game (after discussing how many of the Saints excelled in these!).

My apologies if any of these ideas are repeats of what you might find in the links above, but here are some of the games we have played at various All Saints Day parties:

 1. St. Nick Gold Coin Toss (tossing 3 sacks of gold otherwise known as bean bags into the chimney of a 3d house made out of cardboard)

 2. A vocations themed treasure hunt that led two teams to various locations where they found the clues that led them to their ultimate prize

 3. Patron Saint obstacle course (Pairs of two... the patron saint led the other child who was blindfolded through an obstacle course without touching them, just directing them from the side lines)

 4. Pin the Halo on the Saint (this can be done with a poster sized image of a saint and post it notes)

 5. A quiz for the older children involving "Who Am I" type questions.

 6. Not really a game, but Holy Cards were made by each child using a picture taken of them in their costume (standing in front of a blue sheet), printed off and then decorated with a simple frame made out of Popsicle sticks.

 Hope this helps!

For the past several years we have done a group event at the local Catholic cemetery for All Souls Day (Grave rubbings, prayer service, snacks). This year we (Gwen and I) are planning a bigger Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Day celebration to go with it. What we are envisioning so far:

 refreshments
Pan de muertos (Bread of the dead)
I found a really cute and easy cupcake skeleton design
Read some of the Dead of the Dead books
 Make tissue paper marigolds
 Make papal picado
Decorate calaveras in the style of this book
Paint sugar skulls (which I think will actually be white chocolate)

I have a blog post from last year on what our family did for Day of the Dead.

Mary,

Thank you so much for sharing your post re Day of the Dead. I am leading our Liturgical Art Club this month and we are using Fr. Philip Tells a Ghost Story (about All Souls/purgatory/Divine Mercie) and The Spirit of Tio Fernando. I have been looking for ideas. Thanks!!
