I'm sitting down this week trying to figure out the school year for my 1st grader and Kindergartener. The first thing I realized is that I need a different planner. If I don't have things written down, they stay in my head and NEVER get done.

I have the CHC 1st and K lesson plans that I was going to use. However, as I sat down to actually use them I realized that I use just enough CHC stuff to need their plans daily and just enough other stuff to need more room then the CHC plan offers.

So I think I want *something* that will go in my CHC lesson plan binder to catch all the other stuff. I'd love to find something free to print on the internet without me having to make something on my own (my evil perfectionist half would make that a very loooong process).

Am I making sense to anyone?

Here is a planner put out by FIAR digital resources that I'm thinking of buying. I haven't quite decided yet, but it looks nice. It may at least give you ideas on what to put in your planner. It isn't free, but I think it is reasonably priced.

I guess I'm just not a planner sort of gal (I already knew that but I.just.keep.trying). There are just too many times that we'll do more of one subject and less of another for the typical grid planner to work. I'm okay with that, it is one of the beauties of homeschooling. I DO have to have some sort of plan though or nothing gets done. Soooo, I printed out a basic 2-page/week plan. All is it is 5 columns for the days of the week and a 6th column for list of things to pick up at the store and library. It is bare-bones basic but it gives me a place to write everything from feast days to celebrate to math pages for both kids and that is what I wanted.

     I put my planner together this year, by buying a Mead Flex Notebinder for each child to use for their planner for their daily lists, and one for me as well (having all three in mine for grading, records, planning, etc.). You can see a Mead Flex Notebinder here: Mead Flex Notebinder

Okay, you probably don't need this anymore, but just in case there are some who are like me who is looking for a new system -- here's my most recent find:

the Levenger Circa system (if that's too pricey, there are Rollabind, Myndology and DIYPlanner things that can be used to adapt/DIY)

I haven't used it yet, but the more I research about it the more I'm convinced this is THE planner for me.

I've documented a bit of my wanderings here.

I love that it can be used for just about anything, and that you can go the expensive route, or the cheap route, or everything else in between.

   I once saw some type of closure like the circa on the DIY scrapbooking show. She showed roller closures like that. I'm not sure if they were the exact same thing, but they were very close if not.

    I see that Circa does sell a punch, so at least you could make your own paper for them, making it a bit more cost effective. They really are neat (I watched the video), but definitely not something I can afford at this point. Maybe this will become much more common in the near future, and it'll be *the new binder system* for everyone! Thanks for sharing it with us. It looks neat!
