The Narnia Cookbook

I requested that our library order it since it's so expensive (unless you order the print-on-demand version), and they did!!! We're so excited!

Turkish delight, anyone? I see a Narnia feast in the near future.

I love Turkish Delight ... and the best bit it is very low fat . Unfortunately my favourite is chocolate coated, which kind of spoils the low fat aspect . It still comes in low on Weight Watchers points, though.

We did bear and apples once...I could not pull it off in time to camp with Elizabeth, but we did it later. Bear meat can be found, from time to time, at Exotic Meats. I just checked, and they are out of bear. Oh well. there's always venison.

we made turkish delight -- it's my 9-year old's fave -- i have to look again for the recipe; i didn't like it though:(.... maybe a different recipe.

the print-on-demand version is about $20+. i *think* what happened was they only printed a limited number of copies, so now it's become a collectible -- a couple of places are selling it for $300+ -- yikes!.... i have no idea how a print-on-demand version would look.

ooh, i've never tried bear, macbeth! how interesting.... but i don't know if my kids can bear it what does it taste like???

i hope we get the cookbook SOON -- our librarian didn't tell me when.... i'll let you know!

It tastes like tough gamey beef--not as good as I thought it might be. Apples help. I saw a copy of the cookbook (a friend owns one), and the bear recipe is not in it , so we faked it.

The POD thing is interesting.

we've got the Narnia cookbook!!!

while it is really pretty, i wouldn't pay $170+ for a copy! i think it's an attempt by some sellers to peg it as a "collectible". a fair value would be probably be $20. it's not even an inch-thick. inside are "regular recipes" -- nothing really unusual, excpet perhaps "pigeon pie", "stewed eel" (which is not weird to me because we love eel sushi).... they are actually recipes written mostly for older kids to prepare themselves, or for youngers with a bit of help from a sibling or adult. the illustrations are the original ones from pauline baynes. if anyone has any request for recipes, though, i'd be happy to post some here. the neat thing about them is there's a brief history before each dish, or an explanation, e.g., Calormenes have long been specialists in the field of sweetmeats.
