I was just checking the age for compulsory attendance in NC, and I see that it is age 7??? Can this be right? That seems a little late.
Of course, ds may be 7 before we get there, the way our house showings are going...

It is currently 7 in IL also. Congress here is trying to change that to 4 though.

Yes, 7 is right for NC. I believe it was 7 in FL also.

Here in AZ, it is 6, but when you file your affidvait, you can choose to delay formal instruction until age 8, if you want.

Compulsory school age here in Pennsylvania is 8. There are those who would like to change it though.

Wow! I wish ours was higher! Here in CT it's 5, but can be raised to 7 "by application to the schools."

In AL it is 7, which is delightful. I don't stress about what the "state" wants and we just delay formal education. I'd go for 8 if our state was that way. Now that doesn't mean that we do nothing, of course, but having that freedom one more year without someone looking over your shoulder is great and personally I like having a year to ease in and not have to worry so much about record keeping!

Here in the UK it is 5. No exceptions. And preschools are government funded from 3.

There is a lot of variation- I had no idea. In NC, it is 7-16 for compulsory attendance. But it is great news for me- here in SC it is 6, so I'm gaining a year by moving.

I think it's neat finding out how compulsory age varies state to state. Compulsory age in NY is 6, but they always are threatening to change it.
I can't believe PA is 8! I thought they had tougher regs than NY? I would LOVE to not have to fill out quarterly reports until 8!

Here in Alaska it is 7, but homeschoolers have no requirements to register, report, test, etc, so it really doesn't matter.
