Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

HI all!
It seems that there are a few of us here contemplating our teens high school years (well at least 1 year at a time!). I thought I would throw this out there for a good topic - what are your favorite SAT preparation books, ideas . . . I think that if I have preparation for the SAT in mind starting in 9th grade that when the time comes we're ready.

I have been using English from the Roots Up for some time, as well as Worldly Wise. I also have been concentrating on DS essay writing too.

What do you like/plan to use?

My dd did not find the test prep books very helpful. What we are going to do (she has taken it once) is to find her a college student who is good in math and tutor her on her weak areas. Also, for the essays, we are making sure to do some timed, on the spot essays. (topics which she hasn't had time to think about) I went to a workshop on SAT essay writing and they recommended these. They are looking for lots of examples from history, literature, personal, etc.

Boot Camp for the Brain was our hands-down favorite. Buy it early; use it often! Michael took a course from the book's author but he really thinks the book was worth more than the course.

For the essay, I recommend Andrew Pudewa's high school essay intensive. The SAT essay and the college application essay are two entirely different things. this course addresses both.

Elizabeth,

I just put those suggestions on my list! Thanks for your invaluable information. (Especially since we switched from full time Seton to doing it on our own:)

Blessings.
