I did email them about these. I have not heard a reply just yet, but I will let you all know as soon as I do. They look very interesting!

Maria,
I appreciate the report. Now I know it's not worth trying to get over there between the ballet recital and graduation. That was kind of an insane idea anyway, huh? Go preview Latin books while my entire extended family gathers at my house...
(Actually, maybe I will go after all. You think maybe no one will notice I'm not there? )

I e-mailed CHC about them, and got the following reply:
Thank you for your note regarding our new Latin program. In brief, the author feels that the program would be best for Grade 4 and up and would be useful as a stand alone program or a supplement to any Latin program.
One of the great strengths about the LLR program is that it combines the best features that are most effective in learning a language: immersion at a slow pace, gentle enough for anyone to progress no matter what the age, and explanation and reinforcement of grammar concepts.
Ideally, I think an advanced third grader could start this program with a little guidance from Mom. Each reader includes a brief explanation of the grammar concepts introduced in that reader and gives some reading drills which will allow the student practice with these concepts. If the student reads these explanations carefully and does the reading drills given after most of the readings, he will have no problem whatever in understanding the text. A student could definitely understand these without prior knowledge of Latin.
To demonstrate the gentle pace of these readers, the first four books actually only cover Lessons 1-3 in Henle's First Year Latin, which is about half of the first quarter's work!
Our workbooks, which will be coming in late summer, will give a more in-depth explanation of the grammar and will provide plenty of exercises and drills of grammar concepts, including much practice in diagramming sentences.
The books are small format which is 41/4" x 51/2" and are about 60 pages each. We are incredibly busy this time of year but we hope to have some sample pages up soon!
Hope this helps someone
God bless,
Christine

Just an FYI, I got this e-mail today:
Thank you again for your interest in Little Latin Readers. Sample pages of LLR are now online here: http://www.chcweb.com/catalog/LittleLatinReaders/product_inf o.html
I followed the link and clicked on the "View Samples" button. They look nice!
Hope this helps someone,
Christine
