Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you have to say about D.I.V.E.S. if you have used it? I am interested in what you may have liked and hated about it. It appeals to me. I have a daughter entering 9th grade in the Fall and I would like a guy on CD rom to teach her Algebra 1 instead of me. Does it work? Does it really take Mom out of the equation (no pun intended)? We used Saxon Algebra1/2 this year- an old edition without a solutions manual and....uh....we are doing okay, but I am wondering if D.I.V.E.S. could make it better....maybe even great?

I did not use it for a teenager but for my 5th grader for Saxon 5/4. He loved it. This year I couldn't afford one and he really misses it! Next year I am making sure it is part of the book budget!

Yes - it does take Mom out of the equation and he loved doing it at his pace. They have extra practice if they need and if not they can go faster or slower etc.

I absolutely love D.I.V.E. My kids love it and except for a rare occasion, I am pretty much out of the lesson picture and only do the checking.

We don't like it at all. We've used 7/6 and Alg. 1/2. If your child is very math oriented, you may find that its enough. It isn't for us. We are going with teaching textbooks instead, which has a lot more information via cdrom. I also liked the look of MUS but ds preferred TT.

I prefer a DVD over a cdrom. Using videotext this year and really like it. have heard good things about teaching textbook too. I'm not a fan of Saxon anymore, but if I was going to use it, I'd definately want the DIVE. I think it is important for most kids to HEAR and see the steps.

Thank you very much, ladies, for your helpful reviews. Looks like generally a class taught on the computer is a good idea and benefits student and mother alike. I didn't even know about Teaching Textbooks!...more research to do! You are helping me in a significant way as I piece together a workable first year of high school for my daughter. Real live reviews from real live Moms helps to cut through the advertizing hype. Thanks again!
