Forgive me if I've posted this question before, I can't remember  .
I'm wondering if the religion supplement in the CHC 1st grade plan is worth the $$ if I'm not going to use the actual lesson plans?

I'm so glad you asked--I'm wondering the same thing. And is the "God made me to be part of a family--character-building cards" good? Would another character course be better?

I did that....I bought the lesson plans for the character cards only and have hardly used them because of the lack of photocopy permission. I would not spend the money on the character cards.

I bought the plans, mostly for the religon supplement too, and I have never really used them much. Part of my problem is that I don't own A Year With God and it seems it is referred to often. I am again debating whether or not I want them for second grade. I'll have to look them over at our conference in June and see how much A Year With God is used.
I also never used the character cards. I am wondering if anyone has ever used PACE for character education? It has always looked interesting to me.

I wouldn't say the first grade plans are worth it. I haven't used mine. I do wish they would sell the religion supplements separately, though. I think I would buy them, at least for some of the grades, especially 2nd. I just don't need the rest.
It is hard not to be able to make copies. 
Haven't seen PACE, so I can't comment.

I don't have the 1st grade plans, so can't comment, but I do have 2nd grade. 2nd grade does not depend on A Year with God and I have found the preparation for 1st Communion wonderful.

Hmm, I have been wondering the same thing and thinking of buying the 1st and 2nd grade plans. What do y'all like about the 2nd grade plans?

I have the second grade plans and I hardly used them. I am willing to sell you the old copies of the first or second grade lesson plans-all complete and hardly used-price negotiable???? Am I allowed to say that here?

I have the first grade lesson plans from a couple of years ago, and never used them. I did use some of the ideas in the second grade lesson plans for First Communion prep with one of my girls.
However, I *have* used PACE regularly, and find it to be a valuable resource.

Well, I feel better now. I have K-4 and haven't used them much at all. I'm debating putting mine for sale this spring, too. I would never repurchase K or 1. We started with the cards but they weren't as fun as we thought they would be and returned to reading bible stories. The best idea I ever got from CHC religion can be done without the lesson plans. That's the idea for using 2 picture bibles and cutting one up for timeline cards.
I do like the 2nd grade first communion prep and I may use it next year but I am also thinking about Elizabeth's First Communion Notebook ideas instead, which are free, have no reproduction issues and are really beautiful.

Hi Marie,
PACE ("Program for Achieving Character Education") is a Catholic character education guide that offers resources for teaching 10 different character traits: self-discipline, work, perseverance, faith/trust, compassion, friendship, courage, loyalty, responsibility and honesty.
For each trait, there are quotations (good for copywork!), definition, stories from The Book of Virtues and The Moral Compass grouped by grade level, Bible references, and then a section called "Mary, Saints and Virtues." In that section, there are notes, prayer suggestions, a list of saints whose are examples of that virtue, and a list of saints who struggled with it. Then there are book recommendations (again sorted by grade), discussion questions, writing assignments, and enrichment activities (art, music, nature/science, classroom projects). Lastly, there are ideas for how to practice that virtue.
It's the kind of thing that I could probably come up with on my own if I spent the time and energy, but I really like having it all put together for me. 
Edited to add: I forgot to answer the second part... I use it with all my kids from K to 6th grade. I think it's applicable to a pretty wide age range.
